Meh, some people just prefer to have the most recent iPhone.

I have a note 2 that is just laying around and if I can get an iphone 6 for essentially $150 that seems like a decent sacrifice waiting until end of sept.

Only thing is that I'm not sure if the 6 is enough of upgrade to go through all the work. I really want to see an innovating feature, but if it's only cosmetics and slight upgrade in specs (processor, camera) then I don't see a point.

There is no valid reason to upgrade from a 5S to a 6.

5S to 6S would be a great move though. (Which I plan on doing)

For me, it's way too early as I have no phone to fall back on.

Still debating 4.7 or 5.5...assuming there's a choice.

Old eyes + small screen = :(

Yea most likely probably true. I'm hoping for a really innovative feature.

I'm guessing the watch will probably be the device that people will walk away thinking about tho.

I always sell when MacRumors starts posting speculations of the date of the launch event and before Apple sends out the media invite... usually get top dollar for my iPhone.

Does Apple sell unlocked units on launch day?

Yep. On launch day, you would buy the T-Mobile models through Apple (phones sold through T-Mobile would not be unlocked). Those are factory unlocked phones that have an unactivated T-Mobile SIM cards preinstalled.

The "unlocked" models that Apple sells a couple of months after launch are nothing more than the T-Mobile model without the SIM card.

All iPhones bought through Apple off-contract are unlocked. Perhaps even the contract ones. Only those sourced directly from a carrier are guaranteed to be locked.

I don't actually have an iPhone, but I know that I wouldn't sell it 3+ months ahead of the next iPhone, otherwise I would be without a phone for 3+ months

People pick up something lower end for the short term..

If i sold my 5S now, i couldn't earn any money, couldn't buy any food, so i would be dead by end of September. :p:eek:

I know that all of the T-Mobile and Verizon models are carrier unlocked, but all of the Sprint models (including those sold through Apple) come locked for domestic use and they will not unlock even a fully paid off phone. With AT&T, you have to make sure to ask for the "phone only" model at the Apple Store, otherwise you could end up with a locked phone (at least AT&T will unlock the phone if it's paid off).

Buying Verizon "device only" is the best choice because it is unlocked and upon resale, you can also sell it to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon as well. Verizon customers who would want the Verison version because of it's ability to connect to the CDMA network. (CDMA carriers only allow their ESN/MEID numbers on their CDMA networks).

Inn a nutshell... Verizon iPhones generally have higher resale value since the 5S.

Agreed. I don't understand why people worrying about unlocked iPhone 5s's anymore. All new iPhones look like they are unlocked.

I bought my iPhone 5s through verizon last year and traveled to Rome and paris last year and was easily able to swap out prepaid SIM cards and use their networks.

Except the Sprint models and contract AT&T versions. If you buy a Sprint iPhone, you can only use it on Sprint's network and on a GSM network overseas. You cannot take it over to another domestic carrier.

Also, if you buy through the carrier store, all of them are locked (except for Verizon, I believe). Even if you pay full price for the phone, you still have to jump through different hoops to unlock the phone.

My iPhone 5S will be going to my stepdad to replace his iPhone 3GS, i'm really looking forward to the iPhone 6 :D

I simply buy the new iPhone and then sell my previous one. I'd never sell my iPhone, I have to have the new model in my hands first!
