Yahoo push works perfectly for me. I'm curious - for those of you who don't have it working, how did you initially set up your account? Sync from your computer, or did you go through the iPhone interface and pick Yahoo out of the list of providers? I did the latter, and it works great. I'm guessing it has pre-configured settings that makes it work, and if you sync from your computer it just defaults to standard POP or something.

iphone.

just clicked the yahoo logo. added my info.

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried it the latter way as well. Previously it worked about 50% of the time (PUSH that is) but now, not at all. The messages are there when I check the account manually. It won't PUSH at all now since I messed with the server settings for where to save things like drafts and bulk folders. So I wiped the account and started over by setting it automatically thru the iPhone. No IMAP push whatsoever now.

I'm going to try this with my fastmail.fm PUSH account. That worked really well with my TREO but the storage is small. I'll let you know.

Don't bother. Apparently IMAP IDLE on the iPhone only works with Yahoo. Try creating a brand new ID (freebie) with Yahoo and see if that works. Also try deleting the account, resetting the phone, and recreating it on the iPhone.

You're right...my fastmail was true PUSH when I used it on my TREO. But it didn't push with the Iphone. I've gone back to yahoo and entered the prefix (the one with yahoo in it). It seems like it takes a little time to adjust. At first, it was slow but it seems to have sped up now.

Once I add the prefix imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com push works much better however now I cant view any folders besides my inbox. I want to be able to see my inbox folder and sent folder. Any suggestions?

Same here, any reason why this is?

Ummm..this IMAP path prefix thing that you guys are talking about...where did you see it has to be imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com??? It should be / which means the root of the server which is why you see folders..changing it to something else like you're doing doesn't effect push at all but will lose you folder access.

Yeah, I took it out, my yahoo push still works. But I still can't figure out the "load 25 more messages" thingy means!!

I recommend reading up on IMAP as its not PUSH at all...

IMAP4 clients need to explicitly request new email message content potentially causing additional delays on slow connections such as those commonly used by mobile devices. A private proposal, push IMAP, would extend IMAP to implement push e-mail by sending the entire message instead of just a notification. However, push IMAP has not been generally accepted and current IETF work has addressed the problem in other ways (see the Lemonade Profile for more information).

It depends on how Yahoo has implemented it I suppose...

The iPhone also features an HTML e-mail program, which enables the user to embed photos in an e-mail message. Yahoo! is the only e-mail provider that will be offering a free Push-IMAP e-mail service similar to that on a BlackBerry; IMAP and POP3 mail standards are also supported, including Microsoft Exchange. The iPhone will sync e-mail account settings over from Apple's own Mail application, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Entourage, or can be manually configured using the device's Settings tool. With the correct settings, the e-mail program can check many IMAP or POP3-enabled web based accounts such as Gmail, .Mac mail and AOL.[20]

I set it up the way you described and still not as predictable as I would like it to be.

I am having the same issues with Yahoo's "PUSH" email. It doesn't work like PUSH email at all.

If I go into my mail program, it auto-syncs and many emails will then show up.

I have a paid Yahoo Plus email account, maybe there is a correlation?

Push only works for me when I am actively using the iphone or have just recently put it to sleep. I have done several tests over the past couple of nights where I have not touched the phone for say 10 minutes, send myself an email, go to bed and then check the phone when I wake up in the morning. No new email until I go check.

But if I say listen to some music, put it to sleep and send an email to myself from my PC within say 20 seconds or so of putting it to sleep I can hear it arrive within seconds.

I notice the same thing. When the iPhone is sitting resting, it seems as if it turns off wifi to save power, which makes sense. I think the problem is, the yahoo server is pinging the wifi IP address for heartbeats, but when it turns wifi off, the phone doesnt notify the email server to use a different IP address, so the heartbeats are lost, and the yahoo server stops attempting to connect to the iPhone until the next iPhone initiated connection.

I think this is an issue with the iPhones mail program, since when I am away from home, as long as I am not switching interfaces between edge and wifi, my email is pushed.

That is an interesting theory. It makes sense since I use the email functionality most when I have wifi access, and all of my tests have been at home on my home or companies wireless networks.

Where would I put this IMAP prefix in? I have no option of changing this in the Yahoo account (set up by clicking on Yahoo button when setting up accounts on iphone).

Can I use Yahoo push mail in my ipod touch 2G via wifi ?

I'm not finding this settings menus your're talking about.

Same here! I was feeling pretty silly and am glad I'm not the only one not finding the Settings/Advance, etc that is mentioned to add the IMAP prefix. So please give us more details!
