How can you do a hard reset to the iPhone with no physical buttons?

it will still function as a physical button in a sense, i don't think it matters if a button is physical or not. if its not going to work its not going to work, weather its physical or not.

If an application freezes and the screen is unresponsive how can you get out of it without a physical button?

This thread and all like it = fail.

Do you think apple is likely to extend their new notebook manufacturing process to the iPhone?

*Facepalm*

Seriously, where are people getting this from? I don't even understand how people are making this leap that the fabrication process for one is going to translate to the other.

The construction of a laptop and an iPhone have no relation whatsoever to each other! The iPhone's structure is a shell. It has back and front plates that all the components are affixed to and they are joined together. It isn't even a sensible statement to relate a unibody construction with the iPhone; what would it even mean? They are going to add some unnecessary, machined piece of aluminum inside the phone? All that would do is take up space for the internal components and make the thing heavier and bulkier.

If anything, it's the other way around and the unibody laptops are being constructed more like the iPhone.

zomg!!!!1 apple is making unibody laptops this is amazing lets make everything unibody cuz it sounds cool and must be applicable and better for everything ever made lets make unibody tv and xbox 360 and toasters and calculators and unibody legos and ninja turtles and refrigerators and laptops OOPs apple is doin that already jajajaja and one more thing lets have unibody cars not like the ones we have now but ones where its a real unibody like apple has shown us how to do and carve the full car out of metal and then paint the outside metal and its part of the frame see so it will be strong and light and safe but still look good it is best because it is innovative cuz its an apple technology so that will make it get the best gas mileage and do best on crash tests cuz the very strong unibody construction where even the fenders protect u from crashes oh and guess wut no more such thing as fender bender cuz now the fenders r the frame so yeah i wish more would stuff would follow apple and be unibody but hey maybe the 3.0 software from apple will be unibody 2 wut u think? i luv u :apple::apple::apple:!!!!!!1!1!

Solution

Not only that, but if you get a badly behaved app that freezes, what's your guarantee that the virtual home button will get you out of it?

Ok thats simple....If the iPhone freezes or you have a crappy app that freezes on you then just hold down the power switch on the top of the phone and that would theoretically do the trick

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

the first Gen iPhone was using unibody construction. The aluminum back was made the same way as the new macbooks.
