M2 MacBook Air is a good laptop?

There's too many to list, basically every reviewer who acted like this machine was going to be slow, overheat, and throttle to unusable speeds. Too many tech reviewers use benchmarking software which is a terrible indicator of real world use and any IT person worth their salt knows that, but a lot of these reviewers are tech enthusiasts and never actually worked in the sector. Real world usage > benchmarking software every single time.

If you want a good, accurate review of this machine, [Mobile Tech Review](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFLXf-BeWr4&t=6s) is spot on.
How about just one example? Nebulous statements such as "...acted like this machine was going to be slow, overheat, and throttle to unusable speeds." aren't helpful. I haven't seen anyone state the machine was going to, generically, be slow, would overheat, or throttle to unusable speeds.

Old habits die hard. I shut down mine every night. A remnant from my time as a Windows user.
Plus, I like to start work from a clean slate every morning. Everything fresh and all extra tabs closed.

This is what I've started doing, just shut down at the end of the day....

I was pretty excited to get the MBA M2. But I think all the time watching YouTube videos, reading endless MR threads, got me exhausted.

Maybe this thread with happy stories will help get me excited about it again.

go to youtube and search for 'macbook air M2'... the site is littered with hysterical videos about 'slow drive, overheating, fingerprints'... etc. it''s a free-for-all (as usual)

I have an old iMac late 2009 that is on 24/7 and still runs fine. I restart it maybe once every couple of months.

Again: I haven't seen anyone state the machine was going to, generically, be slow, would overheat, or throttle to unusable speeds. So how about helping a guy out and providing a reference?

this forum erupted with discussions about the M2 air & the youtube naysayers when it was released; you can search here to see that, or, as suggested, do a search on youtube. there are so many 'sky is falling' videos, they will be easy to find

I have read a lot of these types of posts and I still am puzzled where people are drawing these conclusions. Telling me to do a search doesn't do any good. I've already done searches and watch a number of videos. In all of them I do not see "the sky is falling". Now I ask again: Please provide a reference. You've spent more time avoiding the request than it would have taken you to merely supply the information.

How about Maxtech. He pushed multiple benchmarks and was doing pro level work just to show how it would throttle.

I mean if you push any device far enough it will throttle. On top of that this is a fanless laptop not meant for professional work loads. He also had a video where he installed thermal pads and seemed to encourage users to install them. He also showed with a small fan and a laptop cooler.

A ton of terrible advice (except the laptop cooler) for an issue that would not happen in real world usage for the intended demographic for an air laptop.

There were a ton of other YouTube reviewers who made similar claims to throttling. It is not hard to find. Wonder why you are so insistent that someone provide you with information you should be able to find easily???

Furthermore your insistence that these videos don’t exist “sky is falling “ are the words you used is also rather odd. Maybe they don’t flat out say the sky is falling but many of them say they don’t recommend the M2 air because at a configuration they deem passable it costs almost as much as the 14”M1 MBP. A claim Maxtech made telling people to buy Amazon renewed before all the sales.

Just search Max Tech and M2 MBA and you will see a bunch of videos disparaging the M2 air as it was released and then a bunch of videos where he back tracks and says it is not such a bad machine. When you search you will also find as a bonus for your efforts a bunch of related videos from other reviewers making similar complaints.

Now if you are done hijacking the thread on arguments that have nothing to do with the original question of this post can we get back to people who actually own an M2 MBA and their personal positive experiences. Thank you!

Seems like the person you were trying to convince was trying to change the direction of this thread for some reason. The videos you didn’t name are extremely easy to find.

A lot of haters who like to hijack threads on these forums. I guess they have nothing better to do than bring people down and argue points that redirect the conversation.

Because I want to know exactly what the Youtuber said in order to understand how someone has reached the conclusion that they have. I learned long ago never to discuss nebulous claims. What I have read so many times by so many people here is how Youtubers are making claims which do not live up to reality.

Let's take throttling as an example. You stated:

He pushed multiple benchmarks and was doing pro level work just to show how it would throttle.

Did the system throttle under such loads? If so what was in error with the statement? How is such a statement disparaging? I can't say as I don't have the context to evaluate what he said with what you concluded. Why? I don't know which video / statement is being referred to. So, in order to understand why a particular conclusion was reached ask you for a reference so I could understand the context it was made.

What is puzzling is, despite the alleged existence of tons of these videos, no one is willing to provide a reference to them and the particular statement(s) which led them to reach their conclusion about the Youtuber. Why?

You are not understanding. All of what you are asking has been discussed over and over in other threads.

Please go to those threads and research for yourself. Stop trying to continue a discussion that has nothing to do with peoples real life experience’s on their M2 Airs and what they like about them.

There are plenty of other threads for you to find out the information you are seeking and argue with people there.

Thank you

Uh, you do know that I have a base midnight M2 MBA don't you:

Kind of odd behavior for an owner to be a hater, don't you think?

I'm not trying to take this discussion of course but I am growing tired of reading things to the effect of "I lost a LOT of respect for many YouTube "tech reviewers". Geez, you guys just won't shut up about the Youtubers. Every single thread seems to have some comment about the mean Youtubers. Can't you just be happy with the system and leave the Youtub comments alone? As has been said:

All of what you are asking has been discussed over and over in other threads.

So why must we put up with it in yet another (i.e. this one) discussion? Let it die.

Yes they have and, like you, no one has been able to provide the requested reference. Why are people so insistent on spending more time avoiding the question than answering it?

Why post questions here that as I have repeatedly said have nothing to do with this discussion.

“Yes they have and, like you, no one has been able to provide the requested reference. Why are people so insistent on spending more time avoiding the question than answering it?”

I told you where to go and what to look up.

Maybe people don’t want to answer questions that have nothing to do with this post.

Do you like your M2 air? What do you like about it?

Otherwise you can find all of the questions you have asked. Most of the people avoiding your questions have already done the research so easily and are probably dumbfounded by your questions?

Hope you enjoy your Mac or return it for something you like and find whatever it is you are looking for.

Have a great day!

Because I continue to see snarky comments about Youtubers yet I haven't seen any Youtuber make comments which form the basis for the snarky comments. So I ask for a reference. Yet not one single person who has responded has provided the requested information. You're the only one who made an effort.

when the M2 air dropped, a whole bunch of youtube reviews popped up, many of them ridiculous. and the forum populated with threads that were equally ridiculous.

what's the problem? why can't you do your own searches here, or on youtube? and what exactly are you trying to sort out, since you own an M2 air...

i mean, threads like this are all over the forum here...

just one M2 air thread

I have already answered this. I've watched a number of Youtube videos and I am unable to find any that support the conclusions many have made about them. So I ask, again, for an example. To use your words: what's the problem? why can't you provide the requested information? Again: You've spent more time dodging the request than fulfilling it. Why?

As for my MBA what exactly am I trying to sort out? Well, should I keep it. Not because I have doubts about what it is and what it is capable of. Apparently and unlike others in this forum, I know where Apple has positioned this system and I don't need Youtubers to tell me. The only thing that I have to answer to myself is: Do I want to have yet another system laying around the house? I have absolutely ZERO need for this system but I thinks it's cool and I really like it.

“Do I want to have yet another system laying around the house? I have absolutely ZERO need for this system but I thinks it's cool and I really like it.”

Unless you have money to burn then probably not a good idea to keep something you don’t need.

Electronics are a terrible investment if they aren’t being used IMHO.

Also the point of this thread is positive feedback on the M2 Air not proving to anyone what other people said about it.

Why don’t you make your own post about how M2 MBA owners are complaining about YouTube reviews?

I honestly only see people saying what a bad choice buying the M2 air is over the 14” MBP and why you should only buy the 14” MBP. Kind of the reason I started this thread.😉

all the youtube videos would be dated the first week or so of release. but it's not my job to search for you. and i have no idea why this is important to you, since you're not explaining that.

you 'don't need it' but you 'like it'. what do you want youtube ranters (or anyone on this forum) to do for you? keep it... or don't.

I'm not buying it for an investment as I already have plenty of investments. I just think the system is cool and I like it. But the practical side of me says that I should avoid buying yet another Mac for its cool factor. I already own a 2013 Mac Pro, 2016 MacBook, and 2022 Studio Ultra which see very little use. I bought them because they're cool, not to make money off them.

I was going to get a USB-C to GB ethernet adapter but notice Apple do not make one?? They only have an expensive offering by Belkin??
I like to have some common adapters in my bag in case I need them (I work in IT and sometimes need to connect via ethernet to troubleshoot any wireless network issues etc)

Don't think I've ever seen so many jealous or bitter people in these forums, in all the years I've been here. It's so funny 😂

I've pushed my MBA M2 quite hard, working on a WooCommerce website build, with tons of Photoshop editing, and garage Band all open at the same time, plus some gaming on Northgard.... no heat, nothing. No throttling.

It's unreal. I also can't believe the battery life.

Best of all, it's the slimmest and lightest laptop, faster than the outdated M1 Pro at day to day stuff. That's what's probably bugging Pro owners so much, their laptop is a chunky thick thing, as big as the very old MBPs of 2005.
