When you buy a Apple computer you have a 14 day return policy. This means you can return the computer for any reason if you are not satisfied. Open it, see if the display has any rent entire issues and return it for a full refund. I don't see the downside to this situation. I bought (2) 2015 13" retina MacBook Pro computers and I have not seen any retention issues yet. I have had one for about 4 weeks and the other is 3 weeks old. If I had seen an issue I would have returned it.

I am buying it from a re-seller, not official apple store. Because it was a very good discount for my country and it is old model. Maybe they will accept 14 day refund, i will ask for it before opening up the box.

I just fear if image retention issue will come after 14 days, some users mentioned it can be worsen over-time.

My suggestion is ask what their return policy is and don't say anything about your concerns at this point. I seem to remember hearing about graphic pattern tests that could reveal the retention issue pretty quickly.

If you are very concerned about this maybe it would be best to wait for the next refresh.

I heard they still have issues.

A friend from other forum said he is having image retention on his ME294. But it is a late 2013 model, so maybe they fixed it in 2014 refreshs.

I don't know, that machine cost me 6k now and if i would buy an asus instead of it, it would cost me 4.5k. and for 1.5k mac seems better to me of course if it won't have any defects on the display.

I will ask about return policy and if they accept i will open it in front of them and run a test as you said. İf they refuse i will most likely return it and get my money.

Thank you.

Image retention, yellow tinting (either partially or completely), and backlight bleeding are all still prevalent issues with the rMBR 2015 model from my experience. I have received and returned 7 rMBP 2015 13 inch models within the past few weeks because all of them either had one of those above or a combination of them.

The 13 inch models come in A02A or A029 panels. The consensus is that A029 panels have more display issues than A02A. Almost all of the ones with image retention were A029 panels. I went through 3 different Apples Stores and checked out the panel model of all the 13 inch rMBPs they had on display. ALL of the display models were A02A models and they did not exhibit any IR issues.

That is not to say ALL A029 models have IR issues. I had an A029 that was fine, but it had some serious yellow tinting issues on the left-hand side of the screen, so I returned it. Most of the BTO 13 inch rMBPs you will get will be A029 paneled. It seems A02A is much rarer to get.

I’ve got a 2012 and 2014 15” rMBPs. Indeed, about 6 months into owning the ’12 image retention was showing itself. I walked into an Apple store, had it back in two days with a Samsung display (original was LG). I’m typing on it right now (the 2012, 2.7/16/786).
I’ve never had any issues with my 2014.
I pay my mortgage and have for two decades doing audio, video, and still photography work in Alaska. My ‘eyes are trained’ too. These are the best damned displays on the market out of the box, period. ASUS, you’re definitely NOT going to get the same quality you’re going to with a new rMBP. Apple was first with HiDPI displays and have been building them now going on 4 years. Sure, there’s gonna be a ‘bad apple’, don’t pardon the pun....when you sell a dozen million a quarter but it’s irrelevant where you buy your MacBook, Apple will always fix it for you free of charge.

Have you ever dealt with ASUS’s customer service? I’m not even sure it exists. You’ve got a year to decide after you open the box, regardless of buying from a reseller or an Apple store, online or eBay. If it’s a legitimate machine, you’re fine. Why in the world did you return your 2012? Why not have it fixed? I’m still smiling, every time I turn it on. It’s not as quick as my 2014 reading and writing data ...with the latest PCIe SSD solutions, but it’s fast as hell and the perfect laptop to manipulate my photos, finalize my videos, and enjoy surfing the web, checking Twitter, FB, or working in Xcode.

Not sure why you’re so argumentative, just open the damn box. Turn it on, and enjoy it. You’re not going to get the same experience in ANY ASUS laptop, guaranteed.

If you’re looking for an excellent review on the latest or older archived rMBPs, check out Anand and quit ‘looking for problems’. You’ll find that most of us that own these $2500+ (your case $6k? come on now...) aren’t about to subject our computers to some goofball site that can’t guarantee me their pattern will destroy my display. If you’d like why don’t you do the ‘checkerboard’ test --- that has absolutely nothing to do with photography!!!

Calling someone a smart ass that’s trying to help you isn’t the best way to get help. You’ve made up your mind apparently, as the thread you’re linking is a couple days of reading...and built over the course of nearly four years. That’s silly. Just don’t worry about it. That’s the silly part... Why in the world did you even buy it?

First, thanks for sharing your experience. It is important for me since you do photo and video work too.

I am argumentative because it is 6k money (not usd) in my case, and apple does not work like they do in alaska in my country.

Now you are calling me silly, and disrecpecting me for no reason. You need to watch what you are saying. I don't know about your experience, but after browsing with safari, I'd get white safari layout print on grey adobe photoshop. Can you still tell that has absolutely nothing to do with photography ? Sure maybe it would not affect your work if you are willing to wait for 3-5 minutes for it to disappear, or ignore it. But I can't accept that. That's why I got a swap and 2nd system had the same image retention out of the box, and then i got my refund, luckly.

And yes I bought it because of it's display. I'm on the edge for decision, asking for opinions, experiences.

Can't imagine how hard your life must be with believing everything you randomly hear without actually trying to test the validity on your own. Surprised you'd be willing to take the chance opening up the Asus since that screen could be faulty too! Probably better to just not use any screen. Then you won't have to worry about any display issues ever. Since you could initially have a great one and then have something come up later on, oh the horror!

(my screen is perfect. but I only know because I took a chance and turned it on to see)

Seriously? Did you just tell someone "You need to watch what you are saying."?

You asked a question about 2014-2015 rMBPs and image retention, and plenty of people have offered their experience. You continually criticize and argue with most of the folks who haven't had a problem with their display.

It sounds like you've made up your mind, I'm not sure why you're even posting here. Return the Mac, buy the Asus. Enjoy!
