way way better

Interesting, almost like Apple is saving the good phones for its "best" customers - those that buy Applecare. Maybe the only way to get a good phone right now is buy a retail phone plus applecare and then get it swapped. Shouldn't be the case, and people should be rioting in the streets about it since they are being treated like idiots and taken advantage of, but for some reason I don't think the people in this forum will hold Apple accountable, and instead will try to minimize and rationalize it away.

I don't think we get any iPhones that start with F (refurbished). Apple doesn't sell refurbished iPhones, but they do sell refurbished iPads, etc. and they do start with F. The difference between "N" white box replacements (which aren't offered for sale and are only given out for warranty/OOW purposes) and "F" refurbished iDevices that they do sell in the Certified Refurbished store are in name only for allocation purposes, as they all receive a brand new shell (meaning screen + case) and battery. "N" white box replacements can be brand new or remanufactured depending on the timing and/or stock.
Do "N" units have an "N" model number on the About page or it only a stock differentiator?

(I thought Apple went out of their way to make it hard to spot a refurb because people were paranoid about them - remember when refurb serials used to start with 5K but not anymore. Having an "N" model number on the About screen would fly in the face of that!)

Well a guy on the previous page said his replacement had the same "issue" so on a sample of two you've got a 50% success rate - I don't think we can draw a conclusion... ;)

Good point. I am also referencing several replacement phones in the yellow-gate thread, so that is why I am starting to lean towards cheery picked replacement phones, or at least a bit more QC then retail.
