Nope I’m good with the Max.
The XR looks like a great phone but the Max feels familiar in my hand like a Plus.

XR is mainly for people who don’t frequent Apple message boards.
That implies that the XR is the best device for nearly everyone.
Many people that frequent these boards are still buying them, so that doesn't make sense.

It might sell well, but given the inferior XR display technology, and the large size of the device, your thought process is quite erroneous.

Do you think Apple message board people are the only ones not ignorant about the specs of these phones?

I returned my Max and preordered the Xr. I had issues with the Max screen. I think it sucks. I gave me eye strain I've never gotten with LCD iPhones. And the color shift from yellow to blue was irritating. Not what I would expect from a $1400 phone. I did enjoy the size of the screen though.

But the Xr is way cheaper, the camera will be great for my needs, and I look forward to longer battery life than my 8 plus. A slightly smaller body, with a screen bigger than the 8 plus sounds great.

I will miss the home button, but I know the future of iPhones is headed towards the bezel free/no home button style. I hope the Xr is the phone that makes me put my 8 plus in a drawer for good.

The XR is heavier & wider than an XS & has less features- why would anyone that has an X, XS, Or XS max go there?

Because I feel the XS is too narrow (I owned the X), and the Xr is lighter than my current 8 plus. I don't use all the features that you might, like 3D Touch or portrait mode. So the Xr should be just fine for me.

To each his own...

I have the Max, but ordered the XR for my son. I can tell you I will certainly take it for a spin. If it has better reception by some chance (cellular/wifi) and I find the screen and camera setup acceptable. I will certainly consider downgrading how much money I paid to Apple. Max clearly has a fantastic screen and the telephoto lens, but I am not so sure with the Apple Care + it's worth that much more! I will decide for myself and bust a move accordingly!

Each person has to make that call if they are trying to decide. I am open minded about it, which clearly some aren't.

I have an X, ordered the Xs Max but returned it as it’s just too big for me.

The XR looks like it could be the perfect size and with that extra battery life it’s worth me giving up my OLED screen for that.

From what I’ve read about this XR display and the technology behind it it seems a very good option.

Not bothered about 3D Touch either

Ordered the red and can’t wait.

I suspect that you said this at least a bit tongue in cheek, but I think you make an important point. We can so obsess over specs and minutiae that we lose perspective. These devices are a means to an end, not the end itself.

A very valid point. Also, some people may call me a display spec whore, but in the end, I do feel that many XR owners will be very happy with that device. At least it's running iOS and it will have some of the best battery life. The PPI isn't any different than a standard iPhone 8.
I think many will be very happy with that iPhone, even though I don't believe it's the best for me personally.

NOPE! As a matter of fact, it felt good not being tempted to wake up at 3:01AM EST for a preorder!!!

As irony would have it, I woke up at 3:40AM on preorder day (have no idea why!!?), and took a peek at the apple store, seems like there's plenty of stock available!

the biggest reason i went with the XR instead of the xs or xs max is lcd screen. oled screens hurt my eyes and my brain :(
the second reason is the price, but not that important to me

I've not use an LED screen enough to know whether it would affect me, but I honestly could not go $1000-plus for a phone, at least not yet. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised, when comparing my lowly-LCD 6s to an XS, that the 6s' screen still looked very good against the LED. I'm hopeful that the XR's LCD will look better than that of my 6s, but even if it doesn't, it will still look really good to me.

I'm seriously thinking about going from the X to XR. I had a hard time justifying the price for the XS Max minus my trade-in. The 128GB XR is nearly $500 cheaper than the 256GB XS Max, and would only cost a few hundred bucks out of pocket with the trade-in. I also like the slightly bigger screen and an upgraded camera. The screen on my X also has some scratches which drives me crazy, imagine the XR screen will be more scratch resistant.

It's always interesting to read threads like this, because you quickly can separate those that are stuck on specs and those that are all about the user experience and could care less about specs. It's almost like unless they have the best specs it impacts ones ability to have a good user experience. Whereas those that don't care about specs, just get the phone and immediately start enjoying it. I only say this because I use to be in the spec camp, but now I just don't give a rats rear-end about the specs. If it has a decent display... it's does what is suppose too then I am down with it.

Agree you can spot them easily, they are laughing and enjoying life.

BAM!!! There you have it!
