My update:
My original pre-order from earlier this week was still at "Preparing" this morning, and I also got the "Your order is not quite ready yet" email last night, so I didn't have high hopes. I put in another order at another store that showed one left in stock this morning, and it became ready for pickup a little while ago. After my second order was confirmed for a pick-up, I canceled my original pre-order. Putting in my second order took a few attempts (I tried last night originally) because I kept getting an error at the T-Mobile verification step. So I should have a new phone later today!
Glad this worked for you as well! It's sort of strange that BB manages inventory this way (not showing realtime inventory until hours before launch day) since it causes double bookings as people cancel the first order and place a second one. Maybe they will have this figured out for the iPhone 14 ;).

Haha I'm seeing that these BB preorder trouble threads go back years, that's part of why I'm posting my experience because I know people ordering the 14 will have something to reference next year 🤣

My order status still says "We'll email you when it's ready for pickup."

What does that mean? Like today?

Just came back from my local BB store. Assistant manager said they don't have enough tmobile sim cards to activate the phone. When I asked if I could use my current sim card, he said i could but then I would lose the trade in promo. Said it was a company wide issue.

Can anyone confirm that this is actually happening? Looks like some people have been able to pickup their iPhone today even if they were with Tmobile.

Anybody have any trouble picking up their T-Mobile phone? I just went to the store and he couldn’t get the computer to process the trade in. I had done it all online already. So he couldn’t give me my phone. There was nobody else in the store, and he said I was the 1st customer with a tMobile trade in. He’s said he’s going to try to get it sorted out & hopefully I can get the phone tomorrow. So close, I had the box in my hand!

What a ****ing mess… I’m also T Mobile. Guess i’m not holding my breath to get my phone today. I’ll be asking for a BB gift card if this happens to me

Ok some possibly bad news for some.

What does does "We'll email you when it's ready for pickup." mean?

CS Reply:
I have checked the details for you, I know how excited you must be in receiving this order. I see that the order is under created awaiting inventory it means your order will be shipped from the manufacturer anytime within 1-2 days and you will get the confirmation email for your order pick up once it reaches to the store you have selected.

Thanks for passing this along. Doing this though BB is saving me $560 so I will let
that thought comfort me during the arduous days ahead.

I just called my local Best Buy to see if they knew about the T-Mobile issue and they stated they didn't and that they hadn't yet done any T-Mobile activations today. I asked if they could test the system but they couldn't until I was actually there, so guess I just gotta try my luck.

They had my SIM card & the phone, but something went wrong with the trade in. Like when he pulled up my order it didn’t show that I was trading in a phone. I’m an honest person, so I told him that I was trading in my phone. I wonder what would’ve happened if I hadn’t said anything? He said he would report the problem and hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow, and assured me that the phone was allocated to me & couldn’t be sold to anyone else. So far, thumbs down for BB.

oh wow so you're saying that you could've potentially received the phone for a lower price AND kept your existing phone? lol

Doesn't the trade-in account for a large chunk of what is owed?

I have no idea! He seemed like he was about to give me the phone until I said that. But I figure they would come looking for my trade eventually. And maybe an error would’ve popped up at some point before it was all done. Either way I’m not dishonest, so I would never have just walked out with the new phone for $135 AND my old phone.

Oh. I’m T-Mobile as well. That may explain why mine is ready but not ready. It’s a shame they can’t activate via e-sim. Thanks for the information!

Called my best buy. Currently on my end, my order looks like “ready for pickup on release day: today”. It’s 2:20 PM.
When I called, the lady said they on her end the status of my phone is “awaiting inventory”. I’m not 100% certain what that means, but she said they got phones in today and they there’s a chance that it could be available tonight or tomorrow, but she said to check in tomorrow.
Sounds like they just didn’t get any in. I’d imagine they’d have scanned it by now. My preorder is a red 256gb model

So I was able to pick up the iPhone without issue (after placing a new order around 1AM today with a store that had stock per BB's website then). The BB staff told me that the location where I placed the original order (where I got the message that prep was taking longer than expected) had their systems crash so while they had saved that inventory for customers they couldn't activate and sell them. I notice now that (unlike earlier today) that location went from pickups available beginning Wednesday 9/29 to now not even being show or being selectable on the map!

My advice to anyone else who is getting the longer than expected message is to check BB's website for any nearby locations with stock, and if you find them, just cancel the original order and place a new one.

I had this exact verbiage on mine and literally just got my email telling me it’s ready for pickup now. Going to head over shortly - there’s hope still everyone!

What model did you get? Good luck, and congratulations. I hope you enjoy your shiny new toy! :)

I decided to go in to Best Buy and ask what was going on, since my preorder status didn’t update even though that store showed plenty of inventory online. Evidently, my Best Buy had issues with all their preorders, and they were stuck processing. When I went in, they told me they had the phone and would add it to their queue to be processed. I was the 4th or 5th in line, so instead of waiting I set an appointment to come back an hour later.

When I went back an hour later, they had to cancel my existing order and create a new one since the preorders were still “stuck.” Everything worked fine after that, and I was able to get the phone activated on Verizon and go on my way.

So if your preorder is stuck, it might not hurt to go to the store and see what the issue is. If I hadn’t gone in, I’m not sure they would have emailed me today at all.

I finally got my phone! I called again to confirm that they were able to activate T-Mobile trade ins before I left and a very bored-sounding person on the phone said they had no issues, so I went to Best Buy.

I get there and I tell them I'm there to pick up a phone. They ask if it's thru T-Mobile, I say yeah.
They say that their systems have been unsuccessful all day in processing T-Mobile trade-ins, and that I probably wasn't able to get my phone today. I told them the guy on the phone said the opposite, and they shrugged it off. They said they could try anyway.

We went through the process, and they were telling me to expect an error to pop-up at the very end. They even had a guy from Apple there (wearing apple shirt + had an apple employee badge) who was helping them troubleshoot/observe what was going on. They verified the condition of my phone, signed out of Find My, and did all the activation steps at the register. At the very last step when they were expecting the error, the activation magically went through and they were honestly in as much disbelief as I was, lol. I then reset my phone, handed it over to them, and left with my new iPhone! Crazy day but it worked out.

I don't know if the system got fixed right before I got there, or if I got lucky (they said after that they're going to start telling people it's a case-by-case basis). But the staff was really friendly and seemed knowledgeable/knew what they were doing so maybe that helped.
