Ok, it seems like its an Entourage 2008 issue...the sent emails look fine on a PC. On my Mac (Entourage 2008) the encoding is messed up and they cant be viewed.

I have Exchange working great on 4 iphones, one 3G and three 1.0 versions.

The only issue I have is that SENT emails (from iphone only) appear on the Exchange Server (and local PC) as a garbled mess. There is no subject and the body is filled with characters.

On the IPhone SENT folder (Exchange) they look correct.

I am on SBS 2003 SP2

Found my answer...WTF Microsoft???

This is a known issue with Entourage 2004 and 2008 and has not been
resolved. Have a look at this KB article on Microsoft's website
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926521>.

Can I ask a really dumb, noobie question?

Does one need MobileMe or the AT&T business plan to get Outlook to work on their iPhone?

Got a similar question.... I have configured my univ email in outlook along with gmail .... Will i be charged for a corporate plan or extra msg charges ... I'm unclear abt it

The only problem I have with exchange access is the subfolders don't synch or push.

I have a bunch of folders underneath the inbox with rules based routing to sort things as they come in. These folders don't get pushed...I have to manually synch them up. A real PITA since I have a seperate folder for my boss's emails...

I will assume the Rules Routing happens on the Exchange Server and not in your Outlook Client. This is similiar to what I am doing with Yahoo Push Email (Server based Rules). Your problem is the same that I am having with Yahoo in that Push only works for email that is in the InBox. I have to manually Sync the other folders. I was hoping with Exchange and MobileMe that this problem would be resolved. Or at least have InBox Rules in the iPhone Mail Client.

I have many sub-folders so this is a real problem for me. Are any more of you having this problem and have you found a better way to handle this?

i havent managed to get it to work :( and its making me very sad :(

My account verifies. It says that it can not authenticate the certificate, but even if i go back into the account, disable SSL, it doesnt sync. What am I doing wrong?

Does anyone want to come to my office and fix this for me? Please :)

I am thinking of making the switch from my blackberry, and was wondering about the following:

The blackberry allows me to delete email on the handheld only leaving them in my inbox in outlook. Does the iPhone have a setting for that? I only like to see a days worth of mail on my mobile devices, and leave them in outlook.

Second, how does the sync work? Am I understanding correctly that if I make a change to my calendar or contacts on outlook that it will autimatically push to the iphone? Does it work the other way too - iphone change is updated on the outlook?

thanks.

It's a true sync (hence the name ActiveSync). Any changes on one device (yes, calendar and contacts as well as mail) are automatically replicated on the other. In terms of only viewing one day at a time, there is a configurable setting within the iPhone 2.0 software to specify the time period to sync - 1 day is one of the options. You will only see the emails on your iPhone from the past 24 hours.

It is very seamless and to Microsoft's credit, works very well.

I had the same question as the original post regarding "deleting" on the iPhone but not "deleting" on the Server. You did not directly answer that part. You did answer the 1 day option, but not the delete option. Is there no option to delete the entry on the iPhone but leave the email on the server. This is a option of the BB that I believe is extremely useful.

Thanks,

I've had Exchange set up and running fine on my iPhone since launch day. Yesterday, however, I was having problems getting push email to work. I was at work in training all day and playing around with it. It seems email would only update when I went into the app. I was testing it by sending email to myself from the PC I was at and also from my gMail. I was trying both WiFi on and off but it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm not sure what the issue was. Push has been working fine up until then and even after. I'm sitting at home right now and push is working fine. I'm thinking it might be something with the network signals in the room I was in. Seems like it kept bouncing between WiFi and 3G and Edge and the signal strength was fluctuating too. I didn't have any problems using Safari though.

Where and how do you install the necessary certificates? I think thats the problem I'm having. The account verifies, but doesn't authenticate the certificate. When it goes to the next stage it says something about syncing to null.

I'd be so grateful if someone could help me on this. We're a small company with limited IT knowledge! Need all the help I can get!

For our exchange server we have a trusted root certificate that we usually install on the win mobile phones. I did not install it on either of the 2 iPhones and the both are authenticated and syncing properly with the exchange server. What version of exchange are you running? I am currently running Exchange 2007 SP1

Actually there are two flaws with the Exchange implementation

Currently the iPhone cannot schedule a meeting with attendees from it's calendar. This really torpedoes the usefulness for managers.

Nor can it reply in response to a pushed invite, but I suppose you should be able to reply to the accompanying email.

Exchange 2003 SP2 i believe.

I just got the iPhone 3G. I have mobile me and want to sync my PC at work (where all my contacts and calendar are) with the mobile me cloud, and hence my iphone and my Mac at home.

I installed iTunes 7.7 on my PC at work (I have Windows XP, outlook 2003, SP3), configured the mobile me control panel to sync contacts and calendar with outlook, and when sync'ing it says it's going through the contacts and calendar. Funny thing though, no contacts or calendar appts ever show up on mobile me (when looking on the web app) or on my mac or iphone.

- Does this have something to do with the fact that my calendar in outlook is 'connected' to an exchange server? (someone suggested the data is not where mobile me "wants" it to be)

- Why doesn't mobile me see the calendar appts or contacts? My Treo downloaded all that info from the calendar and contacts whenever syncing via a cable...

- If the exchange server is the issue, I can see why the institutional contacts and calendar might not show up, but what about my personal contacts in outlook? They don't get seen either when mobile me 'syncs'.

And oddly, mobile me looks like it's going through everything (it takes several minutes and says it's syncing but apparently it's not "seeing" things.).

Help!

I am having the exact same problem. Let me know if you find a solution please.

That may be part of the problem, however, I can't say for sure. I know that iPhone's can use the auto discover feature of 2007 SP1 for ease of set up.

On the documentation it says that it supports Exchange Server 2003 SP2.

I know that port 443 is open and IMAP enabled. But the next part:

• On the Front-End Server, verify that a server certificate is installed and enable SSL for the Exchange ActiveSync virtual directory (require basic SSL authentication).

I have the certificate, how do i check it's installed?

I cannot switch from my BB to iPhone until the Exchange support provides for the following:

1. Ability to Search and/or Filter Emails
2. Ability to Invite attendees to Calendar appointments that i create
3. Copy & Paste added to OS

These are pretty much showstoppers for corporate BB users. Its amazing that the beta users did not indicate these issues/limitations are critical usability features that need to be incorporated before the iPhone can effectively be used in a corporate environment.

Those are very important features and I hope to see them at some point in the not too distant future. I still love my iPhone, but definitely miss those 3 things.:(

(Fair disclosure: I used to work for Microsoft. And I have an Exchange Server at home. Adding ActiveSync to the iPhone is definitely the best thing Apple could have done with the new software.)

same here, i run exchange at home and already have 2 users on firmware2.0 using push beautifully in addition to me waiting for jailbreak for mine.

it's the most sensible thing apple have done in a while.

If I had the ability to get Exchange ActiveSync working by remote control, I could make a small fortune. :) I've already set up a number of Exchange Servers to allow ActiveSync and I've got it down to about an hour or so.

Look here for some important links that I use when configuring servers:

my setup is the same as yours. when i setup the push email it said this

Unable to varify certificate
the certificate from "servername.domain.com" for account "." could not be varified

accept/cancel

i selected accept and away you go. i do know that the name on the certificate matched the FQDN for the mail server

Thank you to everyone who has helped me out! Exchange working! wohoo!

One query tho..when syncing calendar, I cant seem to be able to edit entries on the iphone that have been created in outlook.

Wow, I'm going nuts here. I've probably logged 20 hours here. I've done everything listed. Checked and rechecked. Can someone please assist me? If someone is willing to log in to my server and can get it running?

I've listed what we are running. And the setting that are currently running for WinMo devices to connect.

I have a SSL installed from GoDaddy. Everything looks perfect.

My iPhone accept the settings... looks like its connecting and nothign syncs. Help please!
