Im debating whether i should take the screen protector i had on my Series 4 since day one off, I am kind of sick of the "orange peel" the screen protector adds to the screen, Can the shappire glass scratch ? have any of you that own the high end apple watches with sapphire glass had any issues with scratches or cracks forming on the sapphire glass?

My SS S4 glass hits bricks daily and granite at least 9x a week and there’s no scratches on my glass.

Thats amazing, so not a single scratch on the coating of the sapphire glass either? i was reading that some people did get scratches on their sapphire glass but they were rather on the olephobic coating as opposed to the sapphire glass itself but its a scratch non the less and would be very visible

2+ years with my SBSS S4 and I have some tiny scratches, 2 actually on the glass, only visible at certain angles so doesn't bother me ... watch gets "banged" on a regular basis and case is flawless.
oh, and these are real scratches, no more oleophobic coating left :)

I've had four SS Apple watches and for the most part, they've been great.

S0: worn daily for 2.5 years. No scratches
S3: worn daily for one year. Multiple, deep scratches.
S4: worn daily for 2 years. No scratches.
S6: worn daily for a week. Lol. No scratches.

I don't know why the S3 faired so badly - I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with it, in fact it saw far less international travel and 'risky' activities than any of the others (I wore my S0 to the beach and snorkeling, several times) so I guess maybe it was just a sub-par batch of sapphire. Other than that S3 though, I've never scratched the sapphire crystal on any Apple Watch.

I have been a watch nut for close to 50 years. I have scratched sapphire glass only once and that was on a Rolex Sub and it was only noticeable under close inspection. I learned quickly to make sure any watch I bought had it.

SBSS S0, worn daily for 5 years: not a mark on the glass - and I've got a bad habit of accidentally knocking it against door knobs at home when I walk by . Previous non-Apple watches I've had with sapphire crystal were similarly rugged and unmarked after years of use.
Sapphire FTW

SSSB Series 4 for a year with no scratches and now my wife has had it a year and still none. However my SBTi Series 5 got a scratch on it deep enough to catch a fingernail. I think the granules on my shingles did it while cleaning a gutter. Also managed some light scratches on the top edge of the glass when I lifted our washer to check under it and the rotating motion of my wrist rubbed the corner of the glass into the tile floor. So while the Apple sapphire is good, it’s not as good as the sapphire on my higher end watches. Least it seems that way, still way better than Ion-X Glass though.

SB Series 4 worn daily for 2 years: not a single scratch on the screen (nor the case for that matter).

Ceramic Series 5 worn sporadically for the past 13 months: ditto.

And I have a bad habit of accidentally striking my watch against the metal door frames at work. You should be fine removing your screen protector.

Remove that ugly screen protector. You don’t need it for the sapphire display. Seriously, if you’re adding a screen protector on top of the sapphire display, I think you’re being overly pedantic, and I don’t mean to be disrespectful, but it’s completely unnecessary. That said, a lot of members tend to be skeptical over Apple sapphire composition, I happen to think that my experience over six different Apple Watches, has been nothing but impeccable with no damage with on any of the displays.

Thanks for the suggestions guys I ripped the protector right off today, love the luster and feel of the actually glass surface as opposed to that crappy rubbery feel of the screen protector, my Apple Watch’s SS body had a rather deep scratch anyway so if I was to get a scratch on the screen then oh well, the watch is already scratched anyway and is a Series 4 Hermes Edition (Using with a Milanese loop band)

I’ve had a new watch with sapphire glass every year ever since the release of the S0 in 2015 and never had a scratch on any of them. Remove the protector and enjoy your watch

And that's another reason to get a SS Apple Watch (silver, anyway) - those case scratches will buff/polish right out! Even deep gouges, like this one I had.
