The Air is also half a pound lighter, has better battery life, and is incredibly thin. I'm using both right now, but I have to admit, I'm struggling a bit to justify the rMBP replacing my 2011 Air.

There is little difference in speed for everyday tasks. The screen is better on the rMBP, to be sure, but I frequently use a Thunderbolt display with my Air, so I'm rarely using it's built in screen all day.

Is the battery life difference big? They both should get the 7 hours right?

can you please keep on giving us your thoughts after you play with it more. would love your input on the rmpb compared to the air because that is where my choice problem is, which one of the two to get. I can get the base 13 rmpb or the top of the line 13in air (i7, 8gb ram, 256ssd) for the exact same price.

congrats on the purchase.

My 13" rMBP arrived this morning. I have the 13" Air as well. If a super nice screen is your priority buy the rMBP.

Price and everything aside the screen on the 13" rMBP compared to my Air is incredible, much better than the Air.

So far I really like it, have lot's more playing around to do yet but I hope it's a keeper because it's going to be hard going back to the screen on the Air's.

Point being, I hope the Air's get an improved screen soon, it's a great computer otherwise, suits my needs in every way and is lighter. But a better screen on the Air is probably less likely with the introduction of the rMBP's which is a shame.

I thought the Air screens were pretty good and they are compared to many other notebooks. Then I saw the 15" rMBP and now with the 13" and comparing them side by side we could still say the Air screen is good but the rMBP's screen is stunning, especially comparing side by side.

My Air seems to go a LOT longer than the rMBP so far - this is one of the things that is making me think about sticking with the Air.

You're most likely not pushing your Air as much as the rMBP... Sure, the ULV CPU on the Air also helps, but people usually miss so many other important factors in such statements. Either way, great for you ;)

Yeah, the rMBP is actually smaller in footprint than the MBA. That's why I think it'll be interesting to see if the MBA will redesigned to at least become as small as the rMBP - as the Air is after all marketed as portable (not that the MBA is less portable than the rMBP in its extremely thin form and lightness). I think it'll be hard to even cut off a bit as there will be less room for internals, but I think Apple can do something about it. And for the smaller bezel.

Hey, thanks a lot for posting those pics. really helps out a lot. Do you mind posting one more picture please? A picture of the MBA and rMBP closed and side to side like you posted before, but with the camera a bit angled so we can see how much area the tapered form cuts off.

Thanks.

They have the same battery life currently, so perhaps with Haswell they will be able to. The 13MBPr also has a 2nd fan and the Air only has 1.

Omg I've been saying that all along and a lot don't agree. *High five*
A lot of people don't mention that the Air can add a premium like the did with the rMBPs. Retina and Haswell with higher price and just a slight CPU/GPU bump at the same cost.

You decided if you're going to keep yours or stick with the Air?

Only the screen would make me keep the 13" rMBP, otherwise I find it runs hotter, has shorter battery life, there's something about the keyboard I don't like, both the 15" rMBP and the Air's keyboard just seems better. Tough call.

I'm sticking with the Air. The screen just isn't enough better to outweigh the other factors.

The wedge shape is so much better for your wrists while typing and scrolling for long periods of time...

rMBP can't take that away from the Air... At least not until it changes forms...

I have both a 2012 MBA and a base model 13" rMBP. I use the retina screen at 1680x1050 (scaled to retina), which gives me a big bump in screen real estate compared to my MBA, and everything looks like a million bucks. The size difference is perceptible when carrying in my over the shoulder bag, but the 13" is still fine. (The 15" rmbp was not fine for my over the shoulder carrying, I tried it). If I had to pick between the 2, I'd pick the rmbp every time without hesitation. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yea, the sharp edges do suck, I swore I wouldn't buy another MBP until they solved that, but I did.

The screen is REALLY good but the 13" rMBP doesn't 'wow' me like I thought it would, regardless of the price, I can't say exactly why.

Maybe a combo of things, gets hot, seems heavier than I thought it would for the size, keyboard seems not as good as the 15" rMBP or the Air.

The 15" rMBP not even including the specs seems so much better, lighter than you expect for the size, better keyboard, cooler. The Air not considering the screen is better in every respect for my needs.

So I'm disappointed, thought the 13" rMBP was going to be the keeper and my main machine, 15" has a bigger footprint than I want - I type away from a desk and on my lap a lot, and the Air's screen looks poor in comparison.

What to buy for a main machine I don't know now.

What's everyone else decided to do?

So the added screen real estate and better screen are the main reasons you decided to keep the 13" rMBP?

What's your opinion comparing the two keyboards heat/noise?
