Don't think i will bother with the superdrive as you can get a samsung off ebay for half the price

However i never use an optical drive. Only when installing Windows, but i just iso-ed the disc on another laptop and copied it over.

why get it on ebay when you can get it from amazon?

Bought one cause I'm one of those still buying CDs, then encoding them to lossless... Doesn't happen every day but whatever.

...It's nice to have an optical drive around. Doesn't have to be Apple.

No, it doesnt. But having what is inarguably the sexiest most beautiful laptop on the planet deserves a good looking drive. That drive is purdy. And the Magic Mouse, and the USB Ethernet adapter....

I'm getting the Samsung one from Amazon, which was mentioned previously in this thread.

BTW, the point of buying a computer without an optical drive, for me anyways, is NOT to get away from using media altogether, it's to minimize the computer so that I'm not carrying more than I need. The optical drive will probably spend 100% of its time in my car, hotel room, office, etc.

I did get a brand new superdrive, for school just in case I need it.

Looks great! And is pretty light.

Yeah it does look nice matches my Air perfect. But it was a pricey.

I have the Magic Mouse too, and honestly it's great for surfing the web and doing light stuff. But it's terrible when I'm coding and flipping between a bunch of windows. I prefer my MS mouse or trackball. After a couple of hours I feel like my wrist is gonna fall off.

Got it because I am still somewhat old school in buying cd's plus I like to burn a few disc of videos for family members.

I thought about it - but sharing my DVD drive from my other computer was extremely easy. At the moment, I can't think of any reason why I would need a DVD drive away from home.

I have a SuperDrive but am thinking of returning it. I haven't needed it for anything and the only reason I wanted it was for handbrake stuff. That being said does anyone have a Blueray drive that will work with the new MBA?

I don't even know if a Blueray will look great on a MBA as you cant get the 1080p viewing because of the screen size(guess), but I could still use it to convert movies to Apple TV format?

Yes, I bought the SuperDrive for my MBA when I bought the MBA itself last September.

I wished to install Office for Mac and I have a collection of hundreds of CDs; in fact, as the HD of my MBP crashed and committed suicide a few weeks later (it was replaced under Applecare but I lost a lot of data, such as everything on iTunes, as foolishly, I did not have back-ups, something I have since remedied), it has been useful in trying to rebuild my iTunes library.

Having said that, it is not the best piece of equipment designed by Apple, far from it. As it is still under warranty, I must have it looked at, - I may well have a particularly poor model - as it freezes and makes very hard work of what it is designed to do.

Cheers

The one you're citing is the same model, just a different color and higher price, is it not?

I use a Samsung one I used with a Dell Mini and now with my Acer Revo, works a charm and cost me just over £20.

I bought my 2010 MBA and a Superdrive last October. When I still had not opened the Superdrive's box after a month I returned it. I still rip a huge number of CDs to disc but use my old MBP to do it. That has turned out to be a good solution for me because the MBP not only does a good job with the CDs but provides an excellent backup machine for the MBA. In short, I have no real use for a Superdrive.

From what the rep at the Apple store told me, people snagged them up immediately when the new Air came out, and they haven't been able to get any for a while. Best Buy shows them as backordered.
