I received my Magic Keyboard today for the 12.9 iPad Pro. It’s nice, but to be honest it doesn‘t scream premium to me and I really miss the function keys. I’ve also been using the iPad a lot with the regular external Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad up until now which has been a very nice experience. I do need a keyboard when I‘m out travelling to work however etc (once the lockdown is lifted) and so feel quite torn, so the new Magic Keyboard cast would would come in useful...

Another issue is that I have some imperfections around the palm rest of my Magic Keyboard case. Would any of you retrun it for this? See photOs below. The trouble is in the UK shipping dates have slipped until the end of May, so I would have to wait a long time for a replacement...

Depends how badly you want or need it....it would bother me straight out the box yeah but over time who knows it may get the odd mark here and there

I have similar issues with my keyboard, some small „bubbles“ in the area below the arrows. I called Apple and they will swapp it.

Yeah that’s exactly what I have - Just called them now and they’re swapping it too.

Looking at these posts makes me want to cancel my order hahah. But I have faith it'll transform my iPP usage. I'm sure your case was an anomaly. Hope the next one comes out perfect OP

Thanks, me too. It’s great otherwise, although I do miss miss having function keys for brightness etc.

Yikes! Haven't received my 11in keyboard yet, should be as early as Friday.. as late as next Friday. Hopefully that isn't an issue across the board.

In the photo you can see my „bubbles“ below the arrow keys. It is not good to see, but you can feel it with the fingers. For this price Apple has to deliver a product without any of such signs. It was absolutely no discussion on the phone, they will change it for a new one.

What I worry about is that we saw similar issues with the matieral with the Smart Keyboard Folio. Apple have had a few years with those htings out in the wild, they must have seen that the anti earl doesn’t;t hold up very well, so I’m confused why they would persist with usign it for the new Mafic Keybaord. IT reminds me of the butterfly keyboards - clearly plagued by problems, but they persisted and persisted...

I’ve seen a few folios which look like they’ve been blistered. I’ve also had one here where people put stickers on and removing the stickers has actually lifted the top material away so its left bubbles.

I have bought the 11” one, but I’m returning it as wel ☹️
feels really disappointing as I was really looking forward to a good keyboard. And the keys are good. The trackpad is excellent. Not big, but it works really wel.
It is really nice in quality. But the weight is more then my iPad and I can’t fold itover. And I write a lot on my 11”
I really wanted this to work.

Mine is fine luckily but I’d definitely be returning if there were imperfection as per the picture. Luckily for me it’s perfect. I love it and won’t be returning it!

A question for those who are having them swapped by Apple - how is it working? Do you have to mail this one back and wait for another or have they taken a hold on your credit card to ship your replacement first?

That's extremely disappointing for an Apple product. I think I am going to wait until I can go in an Apple store and purchase it so I can inspect it on the spot.

Yes, someone will collect mine in 48 hours. Once apple have it they will send me a replacement - they say they make replacements a ’priority’, so we shall see...

Regarding the marks, I’d get that swapped by Apple. Shipping dates may have slipped, but they’ll have some Stock available to replace faulty ones hopefully.
They don't unfortunately. Mine has two similar issues plus my usb-c port is really wonky. Spoke to them and they said i'd have to wait to the end of May to get a replacement. May just send the whole lot back and get my money refunded. Shame as it's nice other than the issues.

Are you in the UK or US?

Mine should be here by first part of next week at the latest. Starting to regret purchasing this before I could see it in a store. Oh well, if I don't like it, I return it.

I dont usually put stickers on things but the Smart Keyboard is so plain and boring that I had to put something to break the monotony of a black featureless slab. Recently I pealed it off and I could see the damage it was already doing. The material they use is just awful and its a shame that they didnt correct that on their premium priced Magic Keyboard.

Totally agree, this thing should be leather

That’s interesting, I was told I wouldn’t gave to wait long as they make replacements a priority. Maybe its a case of different people being told different info by Apple representatives. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Thankfully no issues with mine...loving the experience so far. I have both the Smart Keyboard Folio and original Brydge Pro for my 2018 and was worried about the weight of the MK since on paper it’s quite similar to the Brydge, which honestly feels like a brick. Maybe it’s because it’s distributed more widely vs. the Brydge’s weight being entirely in the keyboard base, but the MK doesn’t feel as heavy and unwieldy at the Brydge Pro. I had previously also paired a Magic Trackpad 2 once 13.4 was released and was sold on the new cursor and trackpad gesture navigation. Having it all integrated into a keyboard/trackpad case makes it that much better.

Leather wouldn’t hold up any better and knowing how Apple prices their products, would add another $100-200 to the price.

Yes I had the Brydge in the past. I agree with what you’ve said - even though the Magic Keyboard case just as heavy, it doesn’t all ‘feel’ like it is. Also removing the iPad is mush easier. I only miss those function keys.

Agree about the function keys. It would be nice if Apple at least allow for keyboard mapping so we could add back some of those functions.
