The lack of metal/gold bands for Edition is mind blowing. Almost like management pumped the breaks on Jony. Even if it was plated gold, it would have been so much better than the band options available IMO.

It boils down to this, if samsung took their wearables and made a gold casing for them, then demanded $17.000 for the exact same device just in gold, everyone would laugh their ass off. Now just because Apples does it, it is "jewellery".

Is is still just a relatively low cost gadget in gold with a limited usefulness lifespan (There will be a apple watch 2, maybe round, maybe just thinner). You'd be better off buying 10 SS and hand them out to friends, at-least you could send heartbeats and images to each other.

What does this tell you about Apple and Samsung, I wonder?

;)

Agree. I was thinking the same. Why so few band options? Why are these not made so that you can swap out metal on the leather ones? I mean, even by special order... why can I not get a red band for the SS and why can't someone who wants an Edition get a modern buckle in brown or what have you?

Even special order. I mean, seriously.

You're right on the first one, but what makes you think I'm 'angry'? Everything I've said here has been along the lines of 'if you've got money then buy stuff'. It's other posters who are saying that anyone who isn't a trillionaire would be crazy to by an Edition.

Go on, show me a post that suggests I'm 'angry'!

*prepares to debail from thread*

LOL. I'm not interested in a debate. It just comes across that way to me. It could be my interpretation. I may be a bit sensitive.
I make a good living and have spent more than I should on some things like cars and watches, and may be a little sensitive as I've caught some crap from people at times with comments that sound similar to yours.

That being said… no way in #### that I'd buy the Edition. lol

But a $100k car is way faster, it has a more powerfull engine, it offers more comfort.
But a $20k holiday give you world rundtrip with experiences that makes a $2k holiday look like you're camping in your back yard.

A $1000 meal will be a whole other level of experience and tastes than $20 at mcdonalds.
No, not necessarily. BTW, a $100k car is now a top-of-the-line Escalade or a fully-optioned Corvette Z06.

The edition gives you exactly the same thing as an android wear watch in gold.
If you believe that an Android wearable gives you the same thing as an Watch, then I am afraid that you are too far gone to be helped.

A used one might be fun at some point. If they are truly limited in quantity they will be valuable. Luxury watch makers actually churn out the same watch with a slightly different design as limited editions all the time and they go for a lot more if you buy the right one. Just because the sport does the same thing doesn't mean much in that context.

Debating it...If supply is limited as rumors suggest, then there will be quite the demand initially for the Edition. That plan could be derailed if there is a restocking fee or 14 day return window is shortened. My guess is the one with the red band will fetch $30-40k in the after market early on.

$30-$40k..... And you are debating it? Easy money right :)

That's a great point. Another indication that the Edition is mere window-dressing for the Watch and Sport lines and Apple doesn't expect (or intend) to sell any Editions. (If they actually do sell one or two, they'll be laughing.)

If Apple really wanted to sell Editions, surely they'd offer limitless options to what would be their most profitable customers?

Why wouldn't the super rich be following a message board? They're human beings just like you and me.

They couldn't possibly have time to follow this board. They're too busy setting bonfires of money alight, flushing it down the toilet and throwing it out the window (if you believe some of the things you read here  )

Apple has always been Great at selling nicely built devices that are lacking at something.

This is one of the ways they will make more money on it. down the road after the launch they will sell a Gold metal band to be purchased in the 10,000.00 to 20,000.00 range.

What a money machine!

One of the funniest things about MR are the people who assume that everyone on here must be just like them.

Yeah, I don't get that "rich people wouldn't post here" thing. They are regular people - Bruce Willis sometimes posts on AintItCool's talkback forums under a pseudonym, Vin Diesel and Milan Kunis play WoW so probably post on WoW boards, etc. If I were rich I'd still post here, because it's a good community for discussing new Apple products.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tim Cook had an account here, played with people's heads :) I'd do that...

Check out some of the other subforums - there is a "show your watch" thread where people regularly show off >$10,000 watches.

A $10,000 hand built mechanical watch from a company with a heritage that dates back over 100 years vs. a $10,000 watch with a $100 circuit board made in China from a company that has sold zero watches to date.
Those people showing off a $10,000 watch with a mechanical heartbeat will be laughing at the guy with the $10,000 Apple watch. They would never be taken seriously especially after the Chinese develop $20 gold fake casings for the sport model. You're going to have trolls on fancy watch sites.

Those people showing off a $10,000 Apple Watch Edition will be laughing at the guy with the $10,000 Swiss watch which has the same basic functionality as something costing $2.99 from a gas station.

It's not nice to show off and it's not nice to laugh at other people, but which of 'those people' is right?

Louis CK used to be a MR member if I recall correctly... not sure if he still comes on here or not. I'm digging back in the vault to like 10 years ago.

This thing is for very rich people, period. There's a lot of very rich people in the world. People who's net worth is over 10 million US.

Only these people can afford something like this as the resell value after a short time is zilch. And that's the thing.

Just seems that way at least ;) I could be missing something. God knows what that would be :D

Note: I wonder how many of these people post here (if any)

Sure could be a lot. Who knows. It's not like money makes you smart :D

It's fun to watch a group of people flip out because a company they worship makes a product that simply isn't for them. A product made for a very real, very large (monetarily speaking) market that this group doesn't understand at all.

It's not for you. Get over it. Move along.

But people making 400k aren't dumb enough to spend 10k on a watch that will be slow and outdated in a year.

The Apple Watch will never be outdated.

It will always be the first gen Apple Watch.

And for $10K-$17K, you will only get a poor man's watch if you want a gold model, what you really want are the >$20K gold models...

I have some friends who do some waitressing/bartending in Atlanta. They told me about people who come in and buy $400 shots. So I'm guessing those are the type of people who would buy those. Me? I freaked out over a shot of Jaegermeister costing $8.

I can't wait to see the first Edition unboxing.

I really want to see the special magnetic charging case that connects with a lightning cable. I bet it's all leather and suede and fancy.

Watch Edition shell.

I've just made a rough mock up of the 'Apple Watch Edition' 42mm shell in Rhinoceros and the results weren't surprising.

Like I say, its a rough mockup,, and the edges are straight, not rounded, therefore my model contains more material than the watch is going to.

The metal content on my model converts to about 100g of 18k gold worth just under £2800.

I know manufacturing won't be cheap but is it really going to be costing Apple £10,700? I have to say I find that highly doubtful if they can sell the low end model for £339.

As a jeweller, I'd recommend giving the Edition a wide birth and buy a Rolex if you're in the market for a watch with money to burn! It might not be 'smart' but it won't be obsolete in five minutes.
