It's been mentioned a few times that the DLC coated milanese loop can scratch both the space black watch and the ceramic back.

Which is why I asked a forum member their experience with the black Milanese loop.

A few posts mentioned on a tech forum doesn't equate to everyone else's experience with the black Milanese loop. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it also depends how someone has treated and managed their Space black Apple Watch. I own the black Milanese and Space Black combination and have resulted in zero issues from any signs of scratching.

Then again, it's never stated the DLC coating isn't impervious to scratches from any band on the ceramic either. That said, If this is considered some flaw from Apple and one wanted to make an argument based on some investigation there was a possible defect, I'm willing to wager Apple's response would be based on two things:

1) There is No guarantee the Apple Watch wouldn't scratch based on how someone handles their Watch accordingly, no matter what the band.

2). The DLC coating isn't impervious to any band or any other object from damaging the Watch. It's merely an added layer of protection.

None the less, I'm the type of person who at least contact Apple's engineers for further analysis on this. If it's a flaw specific to this band and orientation, how is Apple to better themselves without receiving feedback, besides making anecdotal claims on a tech enthusiast site? Case in point to be honest.

This obsession over scratches makes me… uh… scratch my head and wonder how you guys managed to keep your other watches totally scratch-free all these years.

Unless you didn't…

I can't speak for others and their "Obsessions." But to me and my watches, and any other property for that matter I own, it really is not about keeping it "Scratch free." It's about maintaining and treating it with respect.

Some forum members on here treat their property and high-end watches like garbage. And in return, they end up like garbage and complain Apple made a poor product. Others, use more caution and are more mature with how they handle expensive expenses.

But in some respectable theory, I can see the obsession with trying to maintain the screen on a wearable device, to protect it from scratches, as this is something that you would be more likely to see you on a black screen versus a clear piece of sapphire glass On a titanium watch or what have you.

Not everyone on here owns a high-end mechanical watch, so when they make an expensive investment with a $600 stainless steel Apple Watch, they feel like it's an expensive investment They want to keep in good physical shape. Unfortunately, when you factor in physical fitness and how the Apple Watch is partially intended, I think your results are dramatically decreased, depending on how you use the watch.

Oh wow. I just checked the ceramic back of my SBSS and, sure enough, it has lots of fine parallel scratches from the SB Milanese.

I often just leave the watch sitting on my desk and the magnets under the ceramic back pull the Milanese into contact with it. Guess I'll need to be more careful to keep them apart.

This makes sense. It's an interesting point about the magnets likely were part of the issue. And this is why I mentioned to another for member, Apple would likely not recognize this is being a faulty issue or concern. But nonetheless, it's something to be more cautious of and how one uses the Milanese loop.

It's funnier when people are so concerned about the black finish rubbing off and they're upset that it's so good it can damage something else.

One kind of surface will always scratch another. That's just how it goes -- one is always harder.
