No it’s the phone because I have had a few spots of no service with Verizon as well, it’s just not as bad.
I have heard about the XS series having bad reception. Kind of glad I skipped that gen.

Probably stay with my iPhoneX for another year. Wanted to upgrade, but there’s nothing truly compelling bringing me across. Screen is basically the same, my phone is still plenty fast, cameras are good enough.
Doing the deprecation math - I could pay $80 to use my IPX this year, or spend $450 for the first year of a pro max. Money’s not an issue, but, IMO, I’m not getting $450 worth of value from the jump right now. I’ll wait for a more compelling upgrade before taking the first year cost hit. Better for the environment also.
Still staying with my X. I would have loved to upgrade as the X is a bit dated now, but with only FaceID available and quite a long time to go until masks are a thing of the past, upgrading now is simply a bad choice. I'd immediately upgrade if they had used a similar fingerprint reader setup as in the new iPad Air, best of all if it is additionally to FaceID.
Staying with my 11 Pro as well. First time ever I haven't updated.I just can't do it, first time since the 4S i havn't pre ordered and upgraded. Not seeing anything of real value to upgrade from my 11 pro 256gb, i don't really want anything taller or need a bigger screen, i had a XR for 8 months before the pro, 5G is useless for me where i live/work and i would have to upgrade my plan $25AUD a month to get it, a rort.
Not even sure on the mini as i don't want a downgraded camera.
Maybe next year Apple, feel a bit disappointed really lol.
Yeah depreciate quickly. I’m selling mine for a grand. Here’s what you get. The box. And the unused charger, cable, and earphones Inside. Also the phone is in mint condition and still has 100% battery capacity. Gently used and gently charged with the standard 5w charger. its Cheap.I used to upgrade every 2 years. Original, 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S Plus, X, XS Max (wanted the larger display).
The upgrades from the XS Max to the 11 Pro Max were so small I didn't even check it out on launch weekend (even though I wasn't buying it) The changes from the XS Max to the 12 Pro Max also don't do much for me. AT&T's LTE in my area is spotty, and 5G doesn't exist here. Slightly larger screen seems convincing, but not for $1300.. A nicer camera and slightly faster processor is nice, but not for $1300. I do like the new design and I will be checking it out at launch, but with 5G being a new technology and with next year's 5G modems being even better (more power efficient) and possible 120Hz screen like my iPad Pro, I think it would be wise to wait. Maybe I can pick up a cheap 11 Pro Max used since they depreciate quickly.
It seems, reading across the forum, this will be the deal breaker for a lot of people. I suspect that many hordes upgrading from a 8 or older have never dealt with Face ID and will suddenly realize that it doesn't capture all the ways Touch ID could be used (no more pulling your phone out of your pocket and going straight to Apple Pay without looking). I went from an 7+ to X then back to an OG SE mainly because of Face ID.
Touch ID would have been the final bow on a magnificent product...
It seems that pricing the top of line phone at $999 is accomodating and expecting people not to upgrade every year. I mean, would Apple really expect most people to update every year at a $1000 (even with trade-in.... that's not the same as $699 pricepoint)I think this will be the first time I don’t buy a new phone. I’ve got an 11 pro and frankly this years upgrade seems like a whimper.
Slightly better camera and pretty much only if you buy the Max.
The cpu upgrade is so marginal that they pretty much glossed over it and waxed on about ML improvements but didn’t really show anything application wise that needed it. Same with LIDAR.
5G is just not really important at all to most people. It’s certainly not the leap from 3g to 4g where it made the difference of 10s of seconds to load a web page or download a song. And most places aren’t going to have great coverage anyway.
MagSafe, another accessory I’d have to buy to use. Yawn.
I do like FaceID, however, with masks becoming a feature for at least a year or longer (even with vaccination available there is a huge question about amount of doses, willingness to get vaccinated and a general move towards more asian attitude towards masks) it is really cumbersome to use. So i would like the option of having two biometric unlock features available, which yes, does cost money of course. Using a secure code (i use at least 12 number codes) is not really a fun thing. It’s so funny how what works for one doesn’t for another. I love Face ID and find that using devices without it really annoys me now. Although yes, in the age of covid it can be a bit of a problem, but that’s temporary and won’t be the situation forever.
What device do you have, and why are you not planning on upgrading?
I am thinking of buying an SE 2020 and just sticking with that for at least a year or so.. cheap, affordable and does the job.
I can’t help but think that the price jump in the sub-Pro phones is Apple’s getting many of us to be more comfortable with the idea of $1000 phones. The price jump from what the 11 cost up until a week ago and what the 6.1" non-Pro iPhone 12 costs definitely turned me off. That and this is a new body style. Perhaps the most significant one since the 8/8 Plus/original X three years ago (and still more significant of a change than that was). Apple hasn't done well with new body styles as evidenced by problems that plagued the iPhone 4, 5, 6 and especially 6 Plus, 7 and 7 Plus, and the original X. Add to that all of the new elements that 5G brings makes me uneasy about getting one of this year's iPhones. The pandemic and being out of work for the foreseeable future REALLY doesn't help me feel better about spending so much on a phone that is statistically likely to have reliability issues.
So yeah, I'm definitely giving more thought to the SE, XR, and 11 and using the money I save by not going for the 12 or 12 Pro (the 12 mini and the 12 Pro Max are not at all on my radar) to fund a more substantial upgrade in one to two years. I'm more giving thought to waiting until the Apple Certified Refurbished iPhone section of the Apple Online Store gets more refurbished 256GB iPhone XR phones in stock or a 128GB XR if I give up on waiting. I'd go for the SE, but I kind of want a bigger screen, and since I'm planning on a more substantial upgrade in one to two years, the slower processor likely won't matter to me too much.

Were my iPhone my primary device, I could perhaps see paying more for greater capabilities, but I’m usually using my MBP and iPP. I love the 6.1” size but am totally content with an LCD screen and decent camera.
That's definitely not a coincidence. The iPhone product line is more than half of Apple's entire incoming revenue. More and more people are sticking with their current phones and so they need to offset the loss in sales by producing phones that yield more per sale. It's the hidden downside to the fact that iPhone 6s and 7 model phones still run the current iOS releases reasonably well.
Let us know on the battery thread. My wife’s 6s is downloading iOS 14 now. Hope it doesn’t harm her battery, but we’ll see.
