Just got the phone yesterday, woke up at 8:30 AM with full 80% charge, it's now ~12:30PM only 4 hours and my battery already at 57% from 80%. Just normal use on and off - checking few emails, chat etc.. only extra was pairing an apple watch.

I turned off always on, everything set to dark mode etc as soon as I got the phone.

Just me or anyone else also notice higher battery drain on the new one?

PS i really noticed little improvements to my old iphone 11 pro max, with the added annoyance of having the camera not sit flat on table even after case. But that's for a different subject

This indexing thing is a myth. Could have been a thing 15 years ago but not now with fast flash storage. My iPhones and Macs never slow down or get hotter directly after an update or device change even if they are many years old and bought used.

Edit: It's ok, I saw it. Sorry. 😑 I am a 95% Mac user.

I think the opposite way. I took phone off charger at 4:17pm yesterday and I just hit 20% battery left. MUCH better than my 14PM and to think it’s been indexing stuff in that time too

Thanks I see it’s still finishing background updates too, thats probably why. anyone know how long this background update usually takes for new phones? It’s been almost 24 hours since I installed everything and updated iOS 18 to latest version.

I upgraded from a 13pro max to a 16 pro max yesterday and I have to say my first impression is the 13’s battery lasted longer! I’m really hoping that it’s just a matter of indexing and the 16 learning my use pattern, but I almost never had to charge my 13 halfway through the day, and the 16 I’ve had to charge yesterday and today to make it the whole day

Sorry I never saw this. But I just bought "new" phones this year and installed many betas on those (8 Plus, SE2 and SE3) and didn't notice anything like that. But I am not a power user. Also iPad 9 and Air 3 to replace my 9.7" Pro from 2016 and still have the Home Button. The old one was fast enough, but got stuck on iOS 16 and suddenly died a few weeks ago.

I think it also depends on the way the migration is done and if there is much to download in the background or already was included in the backup or maybe already synced from a Mac.

But on Mac this spotlight indexing is always mentioned. And the drives are so fast that you shouldn't notice anything. Bought an M2Pro and M3 last and this year and they didn't need time to settle after migration.

I’ve noticed this too. I have the 16 pro and compared to my 13 pro the battery does noticeably faster. My battery is done indexing too.

from 10:30am to 12:47am today with some moderate/heavy use I'm at 25%... from 100%. This is with 5G use and some wifi use.
that said my phone has stopped indexing and downloading already. gave it a few hours to do all of that until i didn't see that notification then i went out fully today... above is my results.

It might be just indexing. Mines overnight only dropped 1% while I was sleeping for about 6-7 hours, I have AOD off.
Now that my phone has finished indexing, I did another test last night. It was at 80% battery when I went to sleep and was at 80% when I woke up.

Sounds good, but if you used Airplane mode it doesn't say much. Years old phones can hold the percentage over night also often if it's enabled.

Indexing of photos, texts, and mail in particular can take a week or so. Give it a week before assessing battery, and leave the device plugged in as much as possible to allow rapid indexing.

My first day was less than expected, with the restore, background indexing and me running benchmarks and such.

Yesterday, my first full day, was great. about 7.5 hours of use, and I finished the day at around 37% remaining. Today I have 4 hours and 35 minutes of use so far (active screen time) and I'm at 67% remaining. That equates to nearly 14 hours of screen on time on a charge.

Not me.. my 16 pro max battery life is great. I have two and they are consistent in drain. So, I’m very happy with the battery life
