Could you share the method? :p

Update: according to ibookster, Unlocator should do the trick. dns4me told me it's now support HBO NOW. Its pricing is pretty cheap. I'll test it tonight.

Update 2: Yep. You can access HBO NOW with dns4me. I just watched Broadwalk Empire on my iPad. Unfortunately my internet speed is atrocious at the moment so I can't test speed properly.

I just paid for a VPN service.

Did not do a huge amount of research so can't say my VPN option is the best, but it worked for netflix for me.

App just called Private Internet Access - picture of a little green man. Think it was $30 for the year?

The problem with a VPN service is the slow speeds (although these days it is pretty good!). Also you would have to configure your router instead of just setting it up on the Apple TV.

The best option, at least for me is using a DNS service - you can put it in on your Apple TV so it doesn't slow your network down either.

I haven't used it for HBO NOW as I have got my hands on a HBO GO subscription, but it works from the UK and I use a site called dns4me - it may be worth trying out a few DNS sites as most of them offer a free trial.

I'm interested in trying a DNS service but unsure how they work in practice.

- Once you have setup the Apple TV with this, can you access all the apps the US Apple TV gets?

- Presumably you'd also lose access to apps specific to your region (e.g. Now TV + Sky News from the UK Apple TV)?

- If I setup an iPad with a DNS service, could I Airplay US content to an Apple TV that has not been setup with a DNS service?

- What are the security implications of using a DNS service? Specifically, if I set it up on my iPad and use a banking app on my iPad, should I be concerned?

1) Yes you can access all of the apps that the US store provides by changing iTunes store location

2) You lose certain UK apps, such as Now TV but Sky News is still accessible (NOW TV Sports channel is airplayable to Apple TV)

3) Yes

4) I think security is the same as using a VPN. I'm not a security expert but I believe there is a risk, hence you go for a well-known provider.

EDIT: Something to add, most DNS providers can now filter by location - so you could still access Sky Go in the UK whilst also being able to stream US Netflix etc.

Re 4 - Is there a good source to go to to find out who are the well known/established providers? (they are all unknown to me)

Thanks.

Unlocator, Unotelly and Unblock US are the biggest as far as I know, have used them in the past. I'm currently using DNS4me as you can add custom sites and the staff are pretty friendly.

They all do the job so just pick one for a free trial and see how it works for you.

I use this, and it works great!

I live in Italy, and use VPN unlimited. Stack Social has a great deal for lifetime coverage: https://stacksocial.com/sales/vpn-unlimited-lifetime-subscription.

I paid $19 for 3 years on a StackSocial deal, but this is better for Lifetime.

They have an iPad and iPhone app, as well as a computer program, so you can watch everything on all devices, not just your computer.

My only gripe is maybe twice a month I get a message where they have a deal on their service, but as I still have 2 1/2 years, I'm not interested.

Check the ratings on their iPad and iPhone apps. Works great, and you can pretend to be almost anywhere.

It's also got when traveling with iPad and iPhone and using public Wi-FI for security.

I'm interested in dns4me. Could you elaborate more on how to set it up with Apple tv please?

i was able to sign up for it but i cannot log in, always tells me my login is wrong not sure if thats DNS related.

There is a set up guide on their website, i'm not sure if I am allowed to link it but it's under Support > Set Top Box

Speak to the support if you can't set it up, there are guides on the website. One thing that got me is that you have you put your IP in the console for the first time.

Lol sry I meant I can't log into HBO Now. I got the subscription working through iTunes but it keeps telling me that my HBO login is wrong when it isn't

I could not get Unlocator to work

Unlocator has added support for HBO Now on all the supported devices. Pretty simple to set up using the setup guides: https://unlocator.com/setup/

You also need a US iTunes account to create the subscription with HBO Now. https://support.unlocator.com/customer/portal/articles/1940053

Registration worked but then it came cake with login issues. Can anyone who has had this working outside the U.S. please confirm. I also tried Unblock-us unsuccessfully, they have posted on their forum that they are working on it. I share the concern on VPN bandwidth but has anyone had this work for them for HBO Now?

I just moved to outside the US and have been using unblock-us to continue using my Amazon Prime account. I haven't used it for my xbox yet, but it works for alot of platforms like the Apple TV.

i finally got it working but I used adfreetime. Only like 2$ a month

oh and make sure your password doesnt include any special characters like - on your hbo now account for the login to work

Thanks that works for me on both iPad and Apple TV with adfreetime. The special characters point was good as HBO asks you to use a password with this and it is wrong as you stated.

Cheers!!

Does anyone got it working with dns4me? I don't wanna go VPN route.

adfreetime is a non VPN service it uses DNS settings like unblock-us

K. Thank you. I'll check it out. :p

For anyone interested, this is a response from dns4me.

Also, for people who's already successful subscribing from oversea, could you share the experience, like how do you subscribe? What do you use (CC, GC, PayPal)?

Yeah Unblock US does not support HBO Now. Unlocator does though.

Whoever has a success watching it should list the service that can connect. Be aware though that you can subscribe to HBO NOW but if the service isn't compatible you won't be able to watch the stream. You will get this:

So being able to subscribe alone is not enough.

signed up last night for HBO Now, I've been using unlocator for months to get US netflix, never had any issues since singing-up with them, well worth the small monthly fee and easy to set-up
