dns4me told me they're supporting HBO NOW. I'll test it tonight.

Yep. You can access HBO NOW with dns4me. I just watched Broadwalk Empire on my iPad. Unfortunately my internet speed is atrocious at the moment so I can't test speed properly.

i just registered with dns4me, and i'm trying to set up the rest, can anyone post a guide on this for a newbie?

I'm able to access HBO GO site so i know i've set up the DNS but i'm a little unsure about how to set up the US iTunes store account.

i know how to set the country / region on iTunes to US and start making the account but i'm a little stuck with the payment method/address -

whats the best way to do this? are people here using US iTunes gift cards as the fund? where do you buy them from?

i know one american address but its not in one of the states with no sales tax?

Hi,
Lot of questions there.

First, if you want to register US account, you must have a legit US address with zip code and phone. You can google this.

Then go to the iTunes Store (on your PC, Mac, iPhone or iPad. Don't do this on Apple TV). Download a free app. It will ask for you to register. Select US for country and use your US address. On a payment method, select "None" (you need to buy US iTunes Gift Card later)
I have someone who sell US iTunes gift card, if you want that I can pm his email address to you.
When you got a US account, then you will be able to subscribe for HBO NOW (or Netflix or whatever)

note: you will also need a PayPal account to pay for iTunes Gift Cards and dns4me.

If you are in Canada, it is possible to add your Canadian credit card to your US Itunes account. You have to convert your postal code to a zipcode:

- Take the digits from your postcode. The post code M1R 2L1 becomes 121.
- Add zeros to the end if you have less than 5 digits in your postal code. So the 121 becomes ZIP 12100
- Use the USPS zip code tool to verify that it is a valid existing ZIP code.
- If it is not an existing code, then add 1 to the last digit and try to verify again. So if our example of 12100 is not a valid zip code, then try 12101. If still not valid add one to the last digit until you get to 12107, which is a valid US ZIP Code.

After doing this, on your US itunes account, add your cdn credit card using your actual street address and phone number, but use the zipcode and the city associated with it instead of your city and postal code.

hey guys

thanks for your help, i got it all sorted. i have A US iTunes account sorted and i have HBO Now running from the uk. i have logged into the us account on all my devices.. and I'm relieved it doesnt interfere with the iCloud ecosystem (that would be a no go for me) which also means my iTunes library is still accessible on my apple tv (which is important, i have a huge film library)

just waiting for my iTunes gift code to be sent to me, i got it from a website that sells them for 19 dollars ($15 dollar value)

matrix - is your friend selling them cheaper?

WOW! I'm impressed! I will try to verify this with my Canadian card. As far as I know, the numbers of the credit cards are encoded with the issuing country. You can check any card for this. Just enter the first 6 digits into the query database on this website.

So, this must be a loophole in iTunes account settings.

By the way, how on earth did you come up with this twisted idea? 😀

I can't take credit. Found it in an unblock-us support doc on hulu+. I guess this process is fairly well known, it that a google search will turn up a bunch of stuff.

Figured it might work with itunes. And it did. To be honest, I still have a few bucks on my US itunes account, so I have not actually had anything charged to the card yet - but the fact that it took the card means (I think) I should be okay.

Note: I am pretty sure you have to use YOUR postal code. As the zipcode obtained somehow maps back to your billing address via the postal/zip code

is anyone having trouble getting the stream to remain in HD? it starts in HD and looks quite good but after a minute or two it goes to SD and looks very soft.

this on the apple tv, i think on the web browser it stays in HD :S

edit**

doesnt stay in HD in the browser either- must be HBO Now? or the DNS I'm using? (dns4me)

I'm doubly impressed with this as well.

I have a US iTunes account and a Canadian account. But I prefer to use my Canadian card for my US account because my US card charges a flat $10 processing fee. So a $5 Netflix subscription effectively becomes $15.

Excellent tip. Thank you.😀

You are using Itunes to pay for netflix??

You shouldn't need to use this workaround for netflix. For neflix I use my canadian neflix account and CC and just use unblock-us to get the US Netflix programming.

More or less the same I guess. I only buy $50 and it's charged $54.

Depend on the time. I get full stream on my Apple TV and iPad at a certain time.
I don't think DNS service interfere with your internet speed like VPN.

you're right because Netflix plays absolutely perfect, and i think netflix has improved since the last time i had an account with it. Orange is the new black looked like 1080p blu ray quality from usual viewing distance*. (i've got the blu rays) so did the walking dead.

funnily enough, i canceled my voucher order and decided to wait out the free trial of dns4me/hbo now after poor performance. then last night, and earlier that evening, i tested it more and it was working perfectly - no buffering, and remained in HD (not matching netflix quality but definitely broadcast or better quality) i just hope the performance is more consistently good than bad.. i want to stay signed up with HBO Now and give them my money and watch GoT.

does anyone know how quickly the newest episodes of shows appear? do they appear at the same time they air? during the time they air? or right after? or does it usually take at least an hour or more after they air?

It should be the same time or just minutes after.

So if an episode comes on Tuesday, I should be able to watch it Wednesday? Being 5-8hrs time difference from the states would mean I'd have to stay up pretty late to watch something.

It's a steam. Once it's up you can watch it anytime you want.

You are absolutely correct. I used Netflix as an example. As a matter of fact, Netflix doesn't even care with what card you pay. A friend of mine uses his European card for his US Netflix subscription and watches it from Europe with UnblockUS.

By the way, I used your trick with my RBC card and it worked. I haven't made a purchase yet but the iTunes accepted my card and sent me a notification via email about the change in payment method. So far so good #

well.. i just got the now infamous "Cut off" email notification from HBO 🙁

US iTunes Account, US Address Details (of a relative, no business address)
Dns4me..

did i need an american Email Address?

i didn't buy an iTunes voucher yet to top up the account either.

I think it's interesting that we all got the same email at more or less the same time. For me, I failed to update my IP and couldn't watch the show so I need to re-started. I guess that's the culprit.

I haven't gotten an email yet. I signed up with Gmail and a friend's US PayPal Account and home adress. I also disable location services when I use it

i did not think of that. if i try again i will not put HBO now on my devices even.
