No problem.. but just remember if you want to do this and want to upgrade to the new phone in Sept, you need to switch out your phone before March because the loan states that you can't upgrade until you have had the loan for 6 months.
Which is total crap BTW, not our fault that Apple screwed this one up and made 2 different iPhones not compatible with all carriers....

I called retention back in September to ask them about matching Verizon's plans and they told me no.

I switched my 7 lines sharing 20GB(20GB for 10GB promo from a couple years ago) to Verizon with all 7 lines sharing 26GB(12GB plan + 2GB per line). The coverage is better, the speed is better and the price is the same. I have no regrets.

I called and asked for the lowest plan I could get. I ended up with this.

$35 unlimited data
$30 300 minutes a month
$10 data
+ 25% discount. Just got my bill, it was 61 bucks including the tax. I rarely use phone, so I am estatic
This was the same plan I have, until I ported over to T-Mobile. Their deal, with features and the added 20% was icing on top of the cake.

Sadly I gave the AT&T Retentions multiple calls before considering the move but they didn't budge, they said because I have 30% due to my FAN, I had the best plan. No additional features or credits were offered, so I left them after nearly a decade of service.

I went back today and got a sim free phone and still have my att number.

Nice. Have you tried using Verizon or Sprint SIM in it, yet? I have an A1661 I got on the IUP last December, activated on AT&T, and while T-Mobile SIM works fine and picks up signal, Verizon and Sprint SIMs always show "No Service" when inserted. :(

Trying to figure this out in case I move to Verizon - going to see what retentions can do for me tho, but it doesn't look very promising for tethering option on UDP... and would like to have phone ready

Same here, I checked with retention's but I knew they couldn't do much.
I left AT&T after 16+ years of service and they didnt bat an eye.
Peace out :D

I doubt I could get a better deal outside of the promo I have.
80GB, non-throttled, mobile hotspot, data rollover, everything for $300. 10 Lines brings it to right at $450/month

You will need to contact Apple about this- you need a different phone to use Verizon or Sprint; the AT&T phone doesn't have the necessary CDMA radios.

Not yet. I just had an att sim put in it because I am going to go to try T-mobile's service first - I have an appt with T-mobile on Friday. I can't argue with their one plan for $56 a month.

I just tried calling AT&T loyalty/retention again this morning.
While the lady was very nice and actually agreed that my concern was valid, she was not able to offer anything.
She admitted that she did not understand why the AT&T plan was not offering a mobile hotspot and said that was the biggest complaint she has heard from customers recently.

My friend called retention, got nothing, just called me to vent off :), he wanted to go T-mobile. I have T-mobile now, but I redirected him to VZW.
When he asked me why, I told him that John Legere worked for At$t (joke).
Why are you redirecting him to T-mobile? Are you not happy with their service?

With all of these stories Im starting to wonder why AT&T even has a retention department lol

At one time they did try to save you but it seems right now they are more than willing to let you leave. This "churning" of customers is never ending and I am sure that AT&T gains pissed off T-Mo and Sprint customers, too.

AT&T is not stupid as many here think, they know exactly what they are doing.

I'm not happy with T-mobile service, but it gives me good rates for service and more important for international roaming. VZW doesn't cover all the countries I need with data day pass. I can live with problems they give to me.

I gave my friend all negative and positive aspects of T-mobile and he decided to go with VZW. I honestly think I follow him very soon.

From T-Mobile?
My bad!!

out of curiosity.. where do you live? I am leaving ATT and as much as I want to move over to Verizon, I cannot pass up the $70 + 20% off. I live in Los Angeles and I would love to know truly how good is the service.

I called AT&T yesterday. Told the CS agent I was interested in moving my account to another carrier and would like to speak to the retention department. I got put on hold for 12 minutes. Then all of a sudden all cell service dropped. I had only been on hold. And had never spoken to anyone about the situation at all.

I spend the next hour trying to log into my Att account only to have it inaccessible.

Finally went to an ATT store. And found out they cancelled my account. No confirmation. No asking the situation. No even telling me that it would be done. Just sitting on hold for 10 minutes then Boom! No account. CS agent: katelyn gaymon employee id:kg4964
It took An hour to Get my account back up. Providing my drivers lic. birth date etc.

I then called back in to Customer retention. Asked to See If there was anything they could do To retain meand match verizon. They said no. Basically. Anything They could do Would make My Plan Cost More and still not give me tethering.

They actually recommended I look at a more suitable carrier for My needs.

Clearly. Att have 0 intention of retaining existing grandfathered unlimited customers. Or matching other plans. So now I have to Seriously think About my options.

I was so shocked at the the customer service. What was provided. I have never experienced anything like that before. Who cancels a phone line without saying a single word.

Anyway. Probably moving to Verizon. And I slcertainly hope that CS agent ends up as a crossing guard.

I'm sorry, but if AT&T did this to me, I would be livid. I would be going to the nearest T-Mobile Store and establishing an account there.

I think in present value/price ratio it is better to go VZW store for the majority of people.
T-mobile should be the second choice and At&t and Sprint 3/4th depending on the budget.

I think you are correct in that statement. AT&T has had a difficult time recovering from the massive increase in subscribers when AT&T was iPhone exclusive. They may actually want people to leave so they can manage the network better. Once they get down below the number they want, retention will begin bargaining again.

No carrier would ever want people to leave, they want as many subscribers as possible. They'll use the extra income generated to improve their coverage and service

I agree having too many customers is better than the other way around. However, AT&T was caught with their pants down with the popularity of the iPhone. Customer complaints were great as AT&T couldn't provide the network so many data devices required. It wouldn't surprise me if retention hasn't been told not to try to retain customers to prevent the same thing again.

Dude just stop, you don't make any sense.
People nowadays have no logic or idea how businesses operate.
Yes you're right, they want people to leave:D
