To think any business is completely willing to make less money is ignorant. They are just sticking to their guns as far as pricing by charging what they think is a fair price for their service.

I'm sure they have statistics on people who call retention and threaten to leave (to get a better deal) vs people who actually leave, and I'm guessing it sways more in the favor of the former.

It's not that hard to see who's bluffing. If a person wants to leave, they'll leave. They're not going to call AT&T to see if they will be saved. They'll just go. I'm betting a majority of the time that a person calls and threatens to leave, they want a deal...and the carrier's keep notes and statistics on this.

Now, the only time I can see someone calling before they switch is if they're standing in the store and need their account number before they port over. That's a different story. The poster was sitting at home and shopping for the deal and the Retentions rep let him know who's the Daddy in the relationship.

I would have ****ing left. **** the iPhone, **** the timing, **** waiting for a deal. That's unacceptable. I'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars a month to get disrespected. You might as well go to a restaurant and pay for them to spit in your food.

I can see them getting frustrated with multiple people calling and threatening to leave.
As long as they stay professional and not pull what they did to the other poster. They just put him on hold and canceled all his lines without warning :D
That's was pretty crazy.
Yeah, agree not right, but but people take only so much and then they start retaliating. After all rep doesn't care about AT&T either. Just works there.

Why you alway treat people that prepare your food nice. Piss em off and who knows what you might be eating.

Well said.
You should treat people the way you'd like to be treated.
And a regular phone rep is just like any other guy out there. He doesn't make the business decisions :D

Has anyone tried to get tethering added to the grandfathered Unlimited data plan? Perhaps with the announcement of the revised New Unlimited Plus plan, it might be an option for the older plan as well. If I were to bet, I'd choose that they won't. For me, the new plan is still $10/mo more, but with tethering. At least it's now an option if I care to switch plans and pay more.

why is tethering such a big deal to people? i myself don't tote around laptops and such when my phone does 99% of everything my laptop does. just wondering honestly. i myself never cared about tethering. just want opinions

A lot of people are mobile with multiple devices at times. As such, it helps make their work and leisure life more beneficial by having the tethering option available.

I am not mobile with my computer a lot. However, when I am, or a family member or friend, I want to have the option to use when needed.

When I was still on the grandfathered unlimited plan, I bought an iPad. When I did, I bought the cellular version. If I had tethering with my phone available, there's a very good chance I would have opted to save the hundred or two and just gotten the Wi-Fi version. Additionally, now that I do have tethering, I have peace of mind if I need to take a laptop for work, I can tether to handle whatever I need to do without stopping for a Wi-Fi spot.

Because its a great option to have if and when you need it.
I turn on my personal hotspot in the car and 2 others can connect their ipads or other devices and use my data while I use a navigation app on my iphone.
And many other instances like that, so you're saying its better not to have that option because you never cared for it?

Agreed. I very rarely need it as I don't use a laptop, but it's very handy to have just in case.

I agree with this statement.

I mean, for me, yeah exactly. but for you guys to have it as a premium is perfectly fine. Keep it bare minimum for users wanting to pay less. Not sure why att has been against tethering though.

Our portable devices can only do so much. A laptop or other computer? They can pull a ton of data in short order. Radio towers only have so much bandwidth to work with and they are a finite resource in any geographic area.

While I agree with others who've chimed in about more occasional uses for tethering, others want or demand tethering because they're trying to use their unlimited data for all of their internet needs (in lieu of home broadband): phone, tablet, laptop, streaming, downloading, file sharing, etc.
