Anyone so glad they are off the S cycle?

i'm on both cycles. multiple lines that expire just at the right time allow me to upgrade every single year.

Yep. I call it the: WhywaitayearwhenIcangetwhatIwantNOW? Plan.

5 lines, always eligible, never have to wait.

It's only money, I can always make more.

I've gone 3G, 4S, now 6, so I get every third release, which means I'll probably be getting the 7S.

I am ecstatic to be out of the non-s cycle as well. Anytime the body style of the phone does not change I really don't care :p

But isn't the non-S cycle an improved version of the S device? Better specs, screen, battery, along with new design?

Not exactly. Historically they've made bigger jumps in performance when moving to the 'S' models. I presume it's as compensation for the fact that "new body" is no longer a feature so they need to make the other hardware features even more attractive. (Also, they always make the new bodies thinner, so the "S" years are the times they have to cram even more power in without having to shrink anything.)

Not that this will always be the case, but if you look at the first 7 iPhone models I think that was true more often than not.

Up until now the "s" cycle has been the one to have. Historically, it's taken a dog slow phone and made it more usable.

When I purchased the 4S, I regretted not being on the non-S cycle. Now I am about to buy iPhone 6 and I kind of wish it was the S cycle, since the non-S is usually mostly about design and not so much about specs and there are lot of new problems too, which are later solved in the S version...

This is my stance too. Logically I know the S designs have been refined and most bugs have been worked out plus I'm happier with the internal specs, but I'm shallow and want the new design first so I stick with the non-S cycle.

Yeah, that and also when Apple drops the "i" front of stuff. That's getting worn out.

I was actually thinking about that recently. Both the watch and the payment system have the "Apple" prefix when everyone expected an "i". I'm wondering if they're slowly getting to phase it out since it has lost its significance with third parties using it too (ex. iHome, iFrogz, etc.)

The S cycle is so dumb imo. I hated when I was on it. Luckily I officially swapped upgrade dates with my dad with the iPhone 6, but I just think overall having an "S" product every other year is stupid and can't believe people actually upgrade every year for it. I didn't even blink when the 5S came out while I still had my 5.

It is stupid. It surprises me it even works. People line up in record numbers every year for the new model.

Not saying they need to revamp the design completely every year, but tweaks here or there never hurt. It's also guaranteed they're not going to change anything about the RAM or screen during the "S" period which is annoying too. They could definitely up the screen contrast and colors every year.

I've owned every iPhone version starting with the 3GS and the S versions were my favorite.

I think the 5S is almost the perfect phone.

I'm even trying to talk myself into either waiting for the 6S Plus and getting the regular 6 now.

I've owned every version of the iPhone (until now since I won't have a regular 6 I guess) and loved them all. Each "cycle" has its pros and cons, but I say gotta catch 'em all.

I hate to ask this in case it scares the children, but do S cycles attract the bears?

Lolwut?

So the 4 5 and now the 6 are "dog slow"?

The 3 and 4 were dog slow. The 4 was partially saved by having a very light OS upon release. Never a fast phone, though. I used a 4 until recently. And it became unbearable.

The 5 was fast. Notice I said historically.

lol. that's exactly what i told a coworker who wanted to upgrade. i told her to do it. its only money. she'll make more :)

and next year will come and you'll wish you were

im not on any cycle. i am using a 4s and think ill use it until apple drops iOS support for it

My parents raised me to buy the best quality car/computer/gadget that I can afford, and then to keep that sucker until it loses all molecular cohesion!

I just feel kinda guilty that I'm thinking of upgrading to a new phone when my 4S is still functional. But, I'm moving to a neighborhood with horrible reception (NIMBYs have banned new towers), and supposedly the 5S/6/6+ have better quality antennas. I could wait to see how well the 4S manages, but if I do that, I'll miss out on the trade-in promotions.

I have a 4S and purposely waited for the 6 to get off the S cycle. I would much rather have the new design every 2 years when the design is actually new.

My first iPhone was a 3GS then I got a 4S then a 5s. This year I decided to take my brothers upgrade and get the 6+.

If you're on T Mobile are you going to try that voice over LTE/wifi calling feature mentioned in the keynote if you get a new iphone? I've got weak signal strength inside my house and would love to try it but I'm on AT&T which doesn't offer this service yet.

I was raised the same way as you were. I made an IBM PS/1 last me close to 8 years of daily use. My current desktop and laptops are a few years old. My car is 22. But I can't seem to form the same attachment to my phones or iPads.

My favorite iPhone was iPhone 4 and I had it for close to three years which was an anomaly for me. I can't say I've enjoyed the 5s as much. I'll be glad to move on to the 6+.

I've never had an S model mainly because of my contract. But even if it weren't, I doubt I'd make the change.

I've been on the non-s cycle ever since the S versions came out. To me, I like it have the first of the next big change vs. an update of the same form factor.

That being said - I decided to try the Next 12 this go around just in case there are improvements with the 6s that I want - or I decide to go with a 6s+. Or my wife breaks the 5 I give her and she needs a new phone (she's terrible with em!).

I am actually mad I'm off the S cycle (trading my 4S for 6+). The S phones are the faster, refined versions with the kinks worked out, more like what the first model should have been. Now I either have to upgrade early or wait another 3 years to get back, it sucks.

I'm on Verizon at the moment and would love to switch to T-Mobile, but they have *very* little coverage in my area. I think Verizon has already announced that they won't support wifi calling. They say it's because they're just *that* awesome... I say it's because they're a bunch of money grubbing turds.

Verizon has a better 4G than 3G network in this area, so it looks like me and old faithful will need to part ways--the 4S has been just shy of unusual around here. I know my husband has better reception than me (he has a 4G capable Android phone), so I'm going to ask him to unlock his phone so we can test it using a pre-paid T-mobile SIM.

With Next 12, you'd be on BOTH cycles :)

If you want the newest phone that comes out it doesn't matter if you're on Next plan or not, you're going to get it if you can afford it. I'm not on any cycle, I buy the new iPhone when it comes out every year. I like having a more powerful phone and I can handle the financial side of it.
