yesterday I turned mine up to full brightness, with the wifi on and never locked the screen (left it on). It lasted for an hour and a half. That's pretty impressive. This is after 4+ years of use

They make 750GB HDDs that are 2.5" at 9.5mm tall. It's the exact same size as the stock drive that came in the machine. It fit and runs perfectly, though you have to do some surgery to open the thing and swap the drives out.

And to keep it on topic, here's the backside of my iPod Touch 1st Gen:

It still looks and functions perfectly :)

Pretty sure the first gen iPod touch didn't come in 32 gb as I know I got the largest they had when it launched!

Mine is still going strong although it does have a very annoying scratch right across the screen.

Mine's a 16GB and it's nearly in mint condition. Battery life isn't great and being stuck at ~iOS3 sucks. There's a fair bit of lag and apps crash regularly. The biggest downside would have to be apps dropping support for it (won't launch or will crash while in use).

I always get caught up in wanting the latest Apple gadget, but when I look back, I always wish I still had the older stuff. The first gen iPod touch was my first Apple product. I got it because it was the taste of the iPhone without the contract. I still remember the days when I mass installed jailbreak tweaks on the iPod. It's a very unique looking device because of the sculpted bezel unlike all the chrome bezels on many Apple devices including the MacBooks.

The 1st gen launched in 8GB and 16GB sizes. 32GB came a few months later. I got mine as a refurb right after the 2nd gen models launched. I saved a bunch of cash over a new one.
