I just upgraded from an original 2006 mbp. I replaced a couple of parts over the years, like both fans, the hard drive, the wifi card and a battery or four, but it still runs perfectly. I now have an early 2011 2.3GHz i7 quad core with 8GB of ram and a 256GB SSD in it, and the upgrade shock is quite big I must say.

I'm still using my rev A MBP 17" Hi-Res AG C2D 2,93 Ghz from April 2009! It still works great, has lots of battery life and has been upgraded with a Crucial M4 SSD and 8 GB of RAM. I'm only a bit tired of the size of it, sometimes the mba 11" my wife has is a bit more practical.... :D

Yup, me too, I find myself using my wife's 11" MBA sometimes because it's so damn light and convenient.

Using my 13" over here, with deep battery issues (light of the charger plug not working, battery sign announcing "service battery")...

Though running SL, I am still able to watch movies, surf the web & do some iMovie editing....

Not sure about how long this is going to last, but we'll see I guess :) :D :p

After getting rid of my Retina and knowing it was too much power for me, I reverted back to using my 2009 15" that has been sitting in my closet as my backup in case something happens. For my daily uses (typing papers, that's it haha since my iPad can do everything else), the C2D is excellent for me. Heck, I'm not too sure why I got the retina in the first place.

Mine is a 2009 C2D MBP with 8 GB of RAM & a terabyte HDD. This will last me until the next gen next year easily. Just ordered my first new battery for it actually.

Sounds like I've been lucky with my old battery so far. I've never left it plugged in charging if the light is green and sometimes run it down to almost zero charge if that makes a difference. I know when my wife purchased her 2013 MBA the salesperson at the Apple store told her not to leave it plugged in charging and to do the same with the iPhone.

I still use as my main, and only, computer a C2D from 2006. It works pretty well eventhough i woke up one day and saw it full of smoke as i had written in the past https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/837834/
I never brought it to service since it was working and it is still working without any problem... I wonder though were did this smoke came from???
For the past year the left fan stopped working so i replaced it, but unfortunately the replacement doent work also (probably the fan sensor has some problem i guess). I have replaced the battery and the HDD a couple of times, but still works fine!

Oh my battery is still fine. I easily get 4+ hours of charge. It's just well over the 1,000 cycles it takes to begin degrading the battery. My replacement should get me up to 7 hours like it used to be....or 3 in bootcamp :p

Pretty sure mine is 2009, maybe 2010. (lol)

It's a 2.8 i7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD.

It's pretty much impossible for me to slow down for what I do, because I usually am running Google Chrome, Photoshop CS5, Skype, and Pages/Word at once, and it runs just fine. :)

Quite a few of us waiting for the Haswell update / next refresh!

Recently popped in a Samsung 840 I picked up for £70 (~$100). Boot times went from about 50-70 seconds to 10-15 seconds; I kid you not. Fast booting is nice and all, but instantaneous app launches right after boot are the best benefit the SSD has brought to it.

I've previously put an OWC SSD in my 2010 iMac, which is considerably more powerful (2.8GHz i5, 8GB RAM, 1GB Radeon HD 5750), so I was already prepared for a performance jump, but I was not expecting such a massive leap in the ol' 2009 MBP!

Edit: I'd actually go as far as saying it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. Not one problem, not one regret. Nearing 4 years old, and even the battery health is still at 94%!
