Anyone still using Synergy (kb/mouse sharing)?

As the title asks, does anyone use Synergy (https://symless.com/synergy) with Mojave/Catalina?

As per this other thread I'm trying to make better use of my (soon to be elevated) 2018 MBP15, and I'm wondering if Synergy, running on the desktop (a 2018 Mac mini) to allow control of the MBP would make it easier to use this setup.

I use it on Mojave at work to connect my old and new MBP. Annoyingly, the remote laptop won’t accept my password over Synergy. I have to reach over and enter it on its own keyboard. After that it works.

Does any have a recommendation for an alternative software of Synergy?

i use Barrier which is basically a Synergy opensource forge:
https://github.com/debauchee/barrier
works well for me on Windows 10 and Catalina
