I called tech support yesterday and very nicely explained that I have been experiencing reception problems at home for years and have just been dealing with it. I mentioned that I'm aware that some had gotten Microcells for free, and I would like to talk to someone about getting one for free or at least getting a discount. She put me on hold for a few minutes and them came back and credited my account for $220 so that I could go buy one.

I have to say that my customer service experiences with them have almost always been quite good.

I complained at my local store a couple of days ago about my poor reception at home. They told me to call customer service and customer service could give me a credit for the $199 cost. That's what I did and I picked up a MicroCell yesterday, so I just paid $17 sales tax.

Be aware that your problems may not be over if you get one though. I have read that many people have had issues with their iPhone 4 or 4S not connecting automatically. I have the same problem.

As I type this I am sitting 10 feet from my MicroCell and my phone has not connected to it, and shows one bar of Edge. It was connected when I went to bed and dropped the connection overnight. Restarting the phone does not help.

... I am considering switching to AT&T, but I plan on making provision of a MicroCell for $0 an absolute requirement at the time of purchase. I don't know if they'll go for it or not, we'll see.

They didn't go for it. The sales person at the store said I had to call Customer Service and get them to somehow note on my account that I should be given a microcell, and that I should then walk into a store and be given one. However, that clearly won't work since I am not yet a customer (ignoring the work phone which over the past 4 years has consistently failed to work at my house 80% of the time).

The same sales person also told me that I could get voice over LTE if I was on the Mobile Share plan, so I'm not real confident in the accuracy of her answers :D

I think I'm just going to have to go through the whole hassle of buying an iPhone expecting to maybe return it within 14 days if I can't get this to work.
