I figured it was due to supply constraints. Apple was having low yields as it is, and that's just with one product line using them. Or so I read here on MacRumors.

Really? Were you in on the meetings where this was discussed? You do realize that if you were there, and really know what's going on, you signed a bunch of NDA's and you're going to jail and you'll have to sell everything you own to pay your lawyers. Or are you just pretending to know what you're talking about?

Personally, I think it's a supply/production/time frame issue, and you're being childishly silly, to think that Apple would sacrifice a unique feature that no other manufacturer has right now, and sacrifice what could be the best holiday season they ever had, just to wait until every other manufacturer is producing the same thing.

Haha that comment you responded to reminds me of those who claim Apple purposely doesn't build something so they can create demand. It's so silly. Obviously the iPhone is the test case with touch id and it will come to the iPad (and maybe other Apple products) once it's a proven success. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if once it does come to the iPad we finally get users accounts on iOS. Of course the cynics will say that Apple will never offer user accounts because they want people to buy more iPads.

I think it's because Apple isn't convinced they're going to keep a home button on the iPad forever. Truthfully, it is barely necessary as it stands.

They know though that if they put a touch ID sensor in the home button they'd have to be married to it for a while and that may not be ideal.

It was omitted to make you buy next year's model.

Yeah Apple made this one obvious. They are losing their touch. It used to be "damn, this is awesome, how could it possibly get ANY better". Now it's "I'm waiting till next year because that's when they're going to add A, B, and probably C". It started with the original Mini. People didn't necessarily know the iPad 2 would go Retina (though it was anticipated) but EVERYONE knew the original Mini would get Retina in a year.

Hope they add it. I like it on the 5s a lot. It is really fast to unlock. Took me a little while to learn how to set it up, however.

LOL -

held by due to technical reasons? ROFLMAO.

Held back intentionally for a sequel that is! More milking from the Master of all BS marketing, apple!

next generation will include a touchID and perhaps a bump in RAM specs. You gotta save some for the sequels; business 101, son!

TouchID obviously needs a lot of work because of all the errors reading and recording your fingerprint.

Look at Siri, he/she was in Beta since the iPhone 4S and took until the 5S to perfect. That's two years.

It's obvious that this is the same thing TouchID is going through. I don't think it'll be "perfected" until the 6S.

TouchID Works 99.9999% for me. Sometimes it works too well.

The reason I think it's not on the Air and Mini is simply because Apple didn't want to implement it on a tablet.

It mostly works for me but there are annoying blips from time to time. I think it's down to the temperature of my skin. I've noticed more problems as the temperature is dropping here in the UK.

Yes, they currently have a monopoly on the touch ID technology, but they're not going to implement it now and possibly have the biggest holiday season they've ever had.

Instead, they're going to waste it by waiting until every other manufacturer is making them, too, so they can split their profits with Samsung, etc.

When you were ROFLYAO you must have rolled into a table and knocked yourself silly. You need to re-take business 101, kid! You obviously didn't understand any of it the first time around.
