Acupuncture works based on Chinese methods of healing where each pressure point is the start or end of an energy meridians connected with energy flow for certain parts of the body - the pain or discomfort felt is, by Chinese healing teaching, caused by energy blockage or otherwise disruption on those meridians. The Chinese have been using such methods (and with success) for thousands of years - much, much longer than western contemporary medicine has been around. Conventional medicine in western countries is like putting a Band-Aid on the problem, not treating the root or cause of the problem itself.

By that teaching, if someone had perfect health, pressure points wouldn't be painful at all.

Just because they don't use the title "Doctor" or because it's a foreign idea not recognized by the FDA doesn't make it less real or less successful - just more susceptible to skepticism in certain people.

Last week my meridians were immensely swollen. It was unbelievable - I looked like a large tabby. The energy was all up blocked at my pressure points. When the acupuncturist inserted the needles the energy was released too quickly and the needles were shot out, stabbing him fatally in the heart :(.

I've had it twice. Once on a neck injury after a car accident and once in the base of my spine to relieve hip pain. Both times it hurt like buggery for about an hour afterwards and gave me no relief from my muscular pain at all. I won't have it done again shoul I have similar ailments.

Works well for me, and I actually don't really feel the needles except when they are first put in (even then, it doesn't hurt at all).

Can anyone recommend a school for learning acupuncture in China?

I want to do a 3 to 4 week acupuncture course in China. Can anyone advise me on where, and if it is worthwhile doing.

I have it done weekly, and I love it. I feel so much better since starting acupuncture. I am no longer having the debilitating migraines that I used to get (knock on wood). I highly recommend it. It's painless for the most part, look at it this way, a massage is more painful then acupuncture for me.

It's also helped with my depression, which is a major bonus that I never thought would happen. It's a miracle "drug."
