Getting ready to take my second trip in the last 10 days with only the iPad. Last week, the iPad worked very well for my 2 day trip to NYC. And next week's Alaskan cruise will be just fine with the iPad (given that I will be spending more time enjoying the scenery than checking email or blog posting).
With that said, I still need a desktop or laptop Mac to catch up with many tasks that for me, are just not all there for the iPad yet (Photoshop, Final Cut, photo storage, extended writing, web site and WordPress blog management). I can do light versions of all the above with a nice set of apps on the iPad, but the Mac still makes the above tasks and functions easier and quicker in many ways.
One benefit of only traveling with the iPad is I don't have to take it out of it's bag when going through airport security.
