This is all great news to hear from iphone owners. I am enthused you all like the iphone so much, and also that you are able to do many things that typically you would only previously be able to use a laptop for. I am craving one of these very bad at this point in time, I can barely stand it:D
It definitely sounds like it will be able to do every single thing I would ask of it, and beyond.

Thanks for all of the great information from everyone on the subject.

Mornin, MacRumors folks.

Quick question,
I want to know if anyone here uses their iphone for their sole portable device for surfing, email, etc... and if so, do you ever feel the need to have an ipad or something ultra portable like the 11" Air with a bit more options while on the go.

I currently have a Blackberry Curve, and although I can get on the internet with a pretty comfortable connection speed, I absolutely hate the small keys on it because I push 6 buttons at once, and the web browser sucks. My phone upgrade is available in June so I am thinking of picking up the new Samsung Galaxy S2 which is comparable to the iphone. Ideally I wanted an iphone but I have to wait until October before I switch carriers from T-Mobile, to Verizon to get the iphone.

Definitely not. I'm I'm just wandering around the District it's fine, but for travel I bring my iPod, PSP and MBP, it's silly to rely on one devices battery for all your needs if you're away from home.

Yeah--right now my 3GS is my only portable device and I use it a lot around the house via wi-fi. Facebook and Twitter on it. Read the news in the morning with it. Read my Kindle books on it. Surfing while watching sports on the couch. But I do want something a bit bigger and more capable--not an iPad but probably a MBA.

I have a macbook, but it usually stays on my desk. I use my iPhone for web surfing when out of the house, and often when sitting on the couch or in bed. I'm looking to upgrade to an 11" macbook air, so I'll probably use that a lot more outside of the house once I get it.

I just came from the Blackberry curve to the iPhone 4 on Monday this week.

So far I can tell you there is no comparison. I really liked my BB and had it for 3 1/2 years so it was like my third hand. After just a few days with the iPhone... NICE!

Go for it and don't look back. I can push all my emails to the phone and read/respond to them as well as any desktop. Surfing with 3g is WAy better on the iPhone, WIFI is really nice also.

The retina display is AWESOME.

Congrats on the new iphone! I'm glad it's working well for you. I definitely plan on upgrading in June when my plan allows.

Iphone 4 and IPad 1. Laptop stays at home and only gets used to synch my idevices.

When i'm in my apartment at school, i use my macbook. when i'm everywhere else, i use my iphone, unless i'm printing something, in which case i use a school computer. otherwise, the iphone is my music player, camera, web and email checker, gps, and entertainment device.

I use my iPhone 4 as my primary portable device. GPS, email, web surfing, music player...pretty much you name it. It's kind of ironic though that I'm replying to this post with my iPad.

My iPad rarely leaves the house but that's most likely because I have the wifi only version. I'd imagine that if I had the 3G iPad I would be using it much more away from the home.
