If so what brand and how does it run on the 2019 iMac? ie… does your unit run hot or any adverse affect?

Anyone using 128gb memory in the new 2019 iMac

128GB of RAM is an iMac is pretty cool.
I remember not too long ago that there was many people making defending Apple on having a max of 16GB of RAM on the MBP, saying that there really isn't any reason to have more than that on a Mac.
The iMac can have 128GB of RAM and the 2019 Mac Pro can have up to 1.5TB of RAM, IIRC.
Priced @ about $160 each, this isn't a bad way to get 128GB of RAM.

Oh hell, Apple limited RAM to 2GB on the first G4 towers, then reduced it to 1.5GB max on the later ones. You see, they were going all in on virtual memory and the supposed benefits and bla, bla, bla...
The Dual Processor G5 was able to take 8GB RAM, a massive (and expensive) improvement.
Running 128GB RAM on my iMac Pro. I don’t need that much but the used unit I found had that and the price was right so....

I am thinking of getting 2x32GB and also use 2x4GB that came with the iMac Core i9 for a total of 72GB of RAM
Hey, sorry for the late response.
It's really nothing particular at the moment. I used to do some game-related calculations that would benefit from much RAM, i.e. being able to put the whole dataset into RAM.
For the time being, it's more a "nice to have", or "never need to worry". I occasionally fire up a RAMDisk and put my bigger working stuff that's inherently transient on there - like testing things on a virtual machine: Clone an existing machine to the RAMDisk, work on there, delete it. Or performing file-sorting / cleanup tasks, or handling bigger amounts of media files: ripping my music collection to ALAC format, and then editing the meta data and renaming etc.
So basically, at the moment its purpose is to prevent larger amount of unnecessary data being written to disk (one might say it's a mood point technically today). And it might force oneself to complete the task and not leave dirty things behind.
I just created a handy Automator action that I bound to "CMD-ALT-R", which prompts for the size in GB and creates and mounts the RAMDisk; unless it's easy to create I'd hardly make use of it.
