Help please!

Good to hear it works on the developer preview. Do not try it using iTunes 12 from the Yosemite public beta. iTunes crashes half way through the restore leaving the phone stuck in DFU.

I was able to restore from 11.4 running on 10.9. Stupid me also forgot I was on Yosemite at the time and did my local backup on there. I was able to restore the backup using iTunes 12 though once upgraded

EDIT- This was my first thread today, see this is well known, sorry for duplicate post!

I'm wondering if I can get some assistance here.

I'm an idiot:) I'm a regular user/apple lover, and Apple allowed me to access to the Public Beta for Yosemite. I have it installed on my MacBook and did not partition.

I wanted to upload the iOS 8 Beta on my personal iPhone, downloaded a zip file off a site I know my friends have used, and went through the motions of hitting Alt / Restore through iTunes 12 (Yosemite). What happened is iTunes crashed halfway through the process and my iPhone is telling me (via a screen graphic) to connect to iTunes. When I connect my iPhone to my MacBook now iTunes crashes.

I tried this process several times and it is not offering me different results.

Any suggestions? Thoughts? Other than, dude you're an idiot:)

You're not an idiot. You just need to download and install Xcode and then try again or downgrade to iTunes 11. Both options will fix the problem.

I'm on iOS 8 now it's working good so far. I just did update I didn't do a restore so hopefully it works fine.

I made this stupid mistake. Have access to two Macs but both are on Yosemite (designer and an IT guy in this house!). Am I screwed now until the 17th? Anyone know of a manual way to break out of DFU mode?

Just finished updating it to the GM build about 10 or 20 minutes ago. I used iTunes 12 on Yosemite Developer Preview 7 however I made sure that this time I had Xcode 6 GM downloaded, installed and running whilst I tried to update.

I tried last night without Xcode (I only had Xcode 5 installed) and it bricked my phone until I finally downloaded Xcode 6 and restored back down to iOS 7.1.2.

So be warned, as long as you have Xcode 6 GM (build is 6A313) open when you update through iTunes 12 you'll be fine.

you really just need to have opened Xcode 6 once.

Don't listen to that person... You do not need Xcode on windows. If you are unsure, you should just wait til next Wednesday and update when it is pushed out.

I didn't see that he was only on windows and let him know that he would only need iTunes on windows OS.

You must not be a apple developer AND no you can't use Xcode on windows.

Using just iTunes on Windows - I think you would need the current version for your OS.

You don't "need" to be a dev to install any beta, but his questions let me know he doesn't know enough about what he's doing to his likely, personal phone not a development kit.

He can't read the basic instructions on the apple dev website (or he took the GM from somewhere else).

That's as maybe, but this isn't a beta, it's the GM. It will be the same code that ships next week. Should he have it, no of course not. However if he has the wrong IPSW it won't install.

The worst he'll do is restore it. Then he'll need to restore from a backup.

Full restore with new OS

I see many advise to do a full restore before upgrade to a new OS. Can someone explain those steps.?

Downgrading to itunes 11

I have the Yosemite public beta 2 along with iTunes 12 installed on my mac. I tried to upgrade my iPad to the iOS8 GM and iTunes quit on me and now it won't open. On my iPad it does the connect to iTunes screen. What do I do??? Is there a way to get out of this or downgrade to iTunes 11?? Please help me!

Thanks,
Rob
