For those who have iPhone-friendly docks/inputs (preferably USB) into their head units... Anyone take their current iphone, installed iOS4 and tried to use it? Did it work? Did it not work?

I got a Car Stereo (Sony GTX310UI) in my car and ran great on my iPod Touch 2g w/ 3.1.2 firmware via USB (plays, charges, controls iPod from headunit as well)... I'm hoping the new iPhone 4 will work as well, otherwise I'd have to start playing through headphone jack (analog, bleh) and not get the charging function, which in my opinion is almost crucial with the quick battery life these devices tend to have.

Hopefully I get some feedback from all of you who hooked it up to your car or home devices that are iphone-ready. Really interested in hearing your experiences and suggestions.

edit: my Sony GTX310UI was only 99 bucks last christmas on amazon, and was manufactured in late 2008, before the os3 existed, so this gives me hope.

Tried beta 4 in my friends Honda Fit which has iPod hook up, and it didnt work, although beta 3 did. I have yet to try it with the GM, but I sure do hope it works again!

I have a Pioneer AVIC-Z110bt and OS 4.0 still works great with the stereo. In fact, 4.0 fixed the blurry album artwork that was shown on the screen.

I have a Saturn ION 2007 with the Peripheral PXAMG unit and iOS 4 GM release doesn't work on it. It shows that it is charging, but a dialog box constantly appears on the iPod saying "accessory not support" and keeps re-appearing after I dismiss the message (sounds like a multi-tasking loop issue). The PXAMG unit shows "iPod not connected" on my head unit and the audio plays thru the iPod and not on the radio :-(. I sent a note to Peripheral systems to let them know about it...hopefully someone will get it touch with me soon about it.

Please let us know what you find out. I just had the same thing installed in an 03 Monte Carlo SS and will be very upset if the new iPhone won't work.

This is what I got back (so far) from the support site:

Works great with my older Pioneer. I like that they got rid of the option to turn off the cell antenna because of interference. Now there's a warning and a large dismiss button which is a welcome improvement. Seems like it connects faster too.

Pretty vague answer they're giving. How will people like us who already have the product installed be able to take advantage of the firmware update when it's available?

Sony CDX540UI not working

It does not work with Sony CDX-GT540ui.

I tried it with iOS4 GM on a Sony CDX-GT540ui and it starts playing like it did with 3.1.3 but then about 30 seconds in just stops. The iPhone still shows that the music is playing (i.e. the music time is still counting down) but no sound is being played through the speakers. Hope this gets fixed by the final release or that Sony becomes aware of it so they can update their firmware. :(

I was just out in my wifes 2011 Kia Sorento which has the ipod interface and my 3GS with the iOS4 GM seed did not work. The head unit kept displaying empty ipod. My 3GS worked fine with iOS3, hopefully they can get it fixed.

Uhg! Not what I wanted to hear! I have one of the iSimple units in my Acura and was hoping for compatibility out of the box. Hopefully they have the firmware quickly. One reason I purchased this unit was because it was easy to flash for stuff like this.

I wonder what Apple changed in the ipod API's to break integration? I would be a lot more upset if I had another unit or dock at home rendered unusable from the update that I couldn't flash. It just doesn't make sense to have something that so many external devices rely upon break with every new OS release. Certain underlying functions need to reach a state of maturity and be consistent.

The unit it easily updated via USB from your computer although it's a Windows only application (you can do it in Fusion or Boot Camp). I did it before I first installed it. Process takes two minutes or less. The only difficulty you may have is if you aren't able to easily access the unit once it was installed. Fortunately, where it's placed in my Acura is very easy to get at to remove and reinstall.

Any idea on how long it would take them to do their firmware update?
Did they need to do one for the 3GS?

No idea... hopefully within a couple weeks though. I use mine constantly, so I'm going to be stuck without it. Could always use my old FM transmitter until then, but the quality sucks in comparison.

I'd check the link I posted above every couple days. If you click one of the download links and continue through it'll show you the last firmware revision and the date it was posted:

pioneer fh-p800bt

I have a pioneer fh-p800bt, and it's much worse with iOS4. Half the time when I plug it in the pioneer says "No Songs", and I have to sync it again for it to work. BT Audio doesn't connect, except for one time, and then it played audio in super deep demon voice. And searching the music library is painfully slow. The only improvement is that with iOS3, when I plugged the phone in it said it wasn't compatible, and did I want to turn on airplane mode yes/no, and now it just says it's not compatible and has a dismiss button. I emailed Pioneer and they said this:

The unit has not been approved for the iOS4 from Apple.
Since the problem began after the update, I would suggest doing a restore of the iPhone. This will fully erase it and load a clean version of the iOS4 software. Doing a restore resolves most Apple issues. If the problem continues, I would suggest reporting the issue to Apple and have them address it with their next update.

I'd really rather not reinstall everything, it takes for freaking ever to transfer 27 GB and I just had to do it once. Maybe they're right, but it seems more likely to me that their stuff don't work.

I just emailed Apple, I'll see if they have anything to say.

I have the PA15TOY from USA Spec on my Toyota's factory stereo, and it still works for me. I still get the "this device is not compatible" popup, but I hit dismiss as usual.

The first time I connected after I upgraded to iOS4, my head unit showed an error, but I toggled between FM and Disc again, and it went back to working as normal.

This is what happens with my stock Lexus (2010) stereo. Works fine with 4.0, just have to dismiss the "non-compatible" pop-up (as you had to do with prior software versions).

I have pxamg on my toyota and currently an iphone 3g the pxamg doesn't work with iOS4 yet as the post that someone said about pac-audio making an update that puts me in the waiting list till then i have to use the headphone jack and get a car adapter for my phone

I have also lost USB function on my pioneer MVH-P8200BT, when I plug it in I am getting various error messages. Hoping this is resolved as my main reason for getting this head unit was it's total compatibility with my iPhone 

I lost compatibility with my iSimple adapter. It continually pops up with a 'Not compatible with iPhone error'. You can't dismiss it or switch to anything else.

The old OS worked seamlessly with the details in the Navigation display. Now it just displays 'iPod Connection error'.

Hopefully they will fix it with a firmware update....

Works great on my Alpine IVA-D100.

Happy it works, didn't want to lose out on that feature.

I've got an iSample as well...doesn't work and I get an error every few seconds. Even when I start playing music and then plug it in, the music plays over the phone speakers and I get the same error.

I plugged it into my iHome, however, and I got the error once and then it went away. The music played through the stereo speakers as well...

I hope there is an update soon to fix this...
