I just ordered the Howard Leight Max ear plugs because they have a higher decibel rating. My only concern is that they might not be comfortable though the night. I’ve been using the Laser Lites for over a decade. The good thing is the Max are returnable so I’ll give them a shot and if they are uncomfortable, I’ll revert back to the Lites. Stay tuned. ;)

Ear plugs, no. But I do wear a mask that has rather large sides, that cover my ears so I do get a little muffling while I sleep. I love my mask though. I also have black out curtains x2 on the windows.

consider getting a custom fitting for your ear plugs. It is really not that more expensive. One custom pair may last you a year maybe more. No matter what you do sound will conduct through your body and they are not going to offer the -100db isolation you want. Custom ear plugs are really comfortable. Some BMW motorcycle shops had skilled people to do the fitting.

maybe this contact is still good:

The verdict is in, the above are slightly better noise suppression wise but are uncomfortable for long periods such as sleeping through the night. Back to the Laser Lites!

I’ll look into this, but my primary reason to do so would be if they exceed 33Db noise reduction and if they are suitable to lay on for the duration as when sleeping. Two hundred pairs of disposables ($18) that can be worn for up to 5 nights, is one heck of a long time. :)

Just checked, it seems like this custom molded ear plugs is in the same Db range of the disposables.

Besides when flying, I started using ear plugs at home when my wife snored. She now wears a mask, but runs a fan on her nightstand, plus as a rule she goes to bed later than I do, so I still use ear plugs.
I became familiar with Laser Lite (Honeywell) at work, and still use them today. They are rated at a 33Db sound reduction and last a couple weeks before they become ineffective and are available for purchase at Amazon.

What kind do you use?

used to but my ears would hurt after a while, I learned to basically sleep through most things.

My daughter did not sleep through the night the entire first year of her life, so ear plugs every night. As a result, my ear canal has 'stretched' and even the large AirPod Pro tip is too small. :(

Some ear plugs do hurt me, but not to the point where I looked for a specific brand/type.

White Noise machine did not work.

May try the laser lights, but now I find my favorite song by Italian prog rockers Goblin helps me fall asleep faster (Unless I am woken up by noisy neighbors etc.).

I had been using firmer ear plugs at work, and was very sceptical when they switched over to the Laser Lites, but was quickly converted. :) I purchased the 200pair box for $20, but if there is any doubt you can find them in smaller quantities at a relatively higher price per unit.

I use earmuffs. For a few reasons.
  • I hate the idea of throwing out used plugs every day. Just seems wasteful. They probably take a long time to break down. I produce enough trash already. Which I'd love to reduce if practical.
  • Concerns about increased risk of ear infection using plugs.
  • Reusable plugs just seem gross.
  • Sometimes they hurt.
  • Either they fall out or I take them out when sleeping. Making putting them back in, in a dark room, a pain. If I wake up.

There are a few downsides.
  • They come off often when sleeping.
  • Ear sweat on a hot night.
  • Takes a while to get used to.
  • Side sleeping is impossible.

I don't need them as much as I used to. Usually I can sleep without them. I mostly just use them now if there is excessive noise or I wake up in the middle of the night.
I can’t imagine trying to sleep with this on my head. 😝 :D
I’ve been using earplugs for 30 years, and no ear infections. I’m not sure what the mechanism would be that would cause an ear infection due to wearing ear plugs.
