Geez, either I have freakish monster wrists or some of you are super scrawny! :p The 38mm in that last pick looks like the 42mm on my wrist, for the most part. I always thought I had smallish hands and wrists!

The new only reason one would regret getting the 38 is if they have normal to large wrists. I have smaller than normal wrists so the 38 fits perfect while the 42 just makes my wrists look that much smaller. The 38 is a compromise that should only be made if one has truly small wrists - 130-140mm for sure, maybe up to 150mm.

I did go with the 38mm. No regrets, but I'm going to test the 42mm asap, just to be sure.
Asian guy, 150mm diameter, 49mm width.
I really like the "Watch look" instead of the "Smartwatch look" so far!

Be sure to consider screen size for older eyes

My wife and I are near 60. She got the 38mm, and me the 42 mm. I wear a single contact for reading. The screen size of the 38 mm is just barely large enough for me to read complications like the temperature. The 38mm looks great on my 190mm wrist, but the 42mm screen is perfect for me to read the smallest details comfortably. My wife though is happy with the 38mm screen size.

I think a lot of em regret it but are too proud to admit it. Don't be surprised to see a massive influx in sales of the 42mm next launch.

Actually, I think the opposite will be true. Before they became available to try on, most people decided "42 was the male version" and it became the de facto standard for most men's purchases. Not surprisingly, the 42 was much more popular during this launch. However, next year people will have had a chance to see them and wear them in real life and make a more informed decision (for their own wrist size) which will likely bring the mix much closer to 50/50 than it is now. Therefore, I expect a rather large influx of 38mm next time.

That's what happened to me. I preordered the 42 thinking it would be perfect. But after wearing it for a day and then trying my friend's 38 for just a few hours, I've decided to return mine and order the smaller version.

When I first got my 42 I thought they sent the wrong one this thing is small
First time seeing it in person Friday

Same - I immediately looked at the label on the box - to see that it really WAS a 42

but the size is perfect for me

Lol I got a 42mm and after wearing it awhile I had to look at back and make sure it said 42 it's a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be. I couldn't imagine any smaller

I enjoy the 42mm case myself. Being 6'1 190lbs, it looks more fitted to me than the smaller variants. But then again, I couldn't imagine my Omega Planet Ocean and Rolex Milgauss being small faced either, lol. That would look silly.

Do you know how you know if the 38mm is too small for you? If you like the 42mm better. Know how to tell if the 42mm is too big? If you like the 38mm.

I just don't get the attitude about this from some.

As a watch guy, for the last 13 years large 40mm+ have been very fashionable for men, so I consider 38 a woman size watch. I would never consider a 38mm watch anymore.

As a matter of fact I was worried the 42mm was gonna be small on me. I tried it on and it works, but I would have preferred a 45mm offering.

Wow some of you guys must have small hands/wrists. Your 38mm looks bigger than my 42mm does on me.

I ordered both. I have really small wrists, a little wider than a credit card. I got my 38 first and felt like I was wearing a girls watch. It didn't look bad, but it is pretty tiny. The 42 is the right choice to me, but that is my opinion. I also like the extra screen real estate, but mostly felt like a girl's watch to me. I like a more substantial watch. Just wish it was a little thinner. The pictures definitely make the 42 look big, but that is not the case. It is an optical illusion of the lens.

Here is the 42mm on me. I actually wish they made a even larger version.

WOW, that 42, looks like an iPad mini on your wrist, NICE!!!

Yeah, the pictures really are no way to chose these watches and the screen real estate is a dignificant difference if you ask me. 5mm is a lot when you are talking functionality on something this size. I think they nailed it with the size options for most. Nice watch. Can't go wrong with the classic band. Timeless!

On my 160mm wrists, the 42mm felt like I was wearing a try hard smart watch. It was a bit ostentatious at this size to me--the screen looked really big on my wrist (TO MY TASTE). Now going almost 2 days with the 38, I'm really happy with the decision. This is the right size for my wrist.

I was all set to order a 42. Went to Apple for a try on, mostly to see the different band. I noticed when I put the 42 on, it move a lot on my arm and actually made it difficult to bend my wrist. Even when I adjust the band tighter.
So I tried on a 38, that was an immediate difference that felt better. It didn't look bad (no pics, Genius Bar had my phone) and it was more comfortable. So now I am torn, I want the larger screen but the smaller was more comfortable, so before I order I will be doing another try on and hopefully won't get a rep so nervous and awkward.

I'm a guy, btw

Try different types of bands too. I found the 42 sport band fit really nice, while the leather and so on they had to try were huge and slid around some. It is all personal preference. I like a little weight to my watches though. It lets me know it didn't fall off somewhere. This reminds me of the weight of my diver's watch. I loved that one.

Yeah I thought the sports band felt nice but were stiff. I really liked the leather loop allowing me to adjust the length perfectly. I didn't get to try the Milanese loop but give how form fitting that is, it might help the stiffness issue I was feeling with the 42.

Gonna do another try on before buying.

Depends on the dad, I guess.

If your dad is a master of the universe type who wears a 36mm Patek Philippe minute repeater, I would be just fine with a dad watch.

The pictures I have seen have been deceptive in reference to size (from what I've experienced). My wrists are on the smaller side of "normal". Since I don't have an Apple Store nearby I ordered a 38mm based on posted pics. When I received my watch Friday I put it on, checked it out, and was like "wow this looks small". After wearing it for two days I have boxed it back up and it's being shipped back to Apple Monday morning. I have since ordered a 42mm.
