I like wind chimes. To me the noise is soothing but those are the high quality wind chimes.
The person is not an ****** until they refuse to take them down at night when ask.

I personally want to get myself a set but I would try to remember to take them down at night for curiosity of people who want to sleep and can not stand them.

Either way, you sound like someone with way to much time on his hands. There are a lot bigger things to worry about in the world.

Sleep and well-being aren't important things to worry about?

EDIT- missed the rude neighbor part. Take the wind chimes down and run over them with your car.

Having a rude neighbour doesn't change anything. He still can't sleep with wind chimes near him.

I guess I'm sympathetic because they would probably cause me to wake up occasionally.

Fill the chimes with foam in a can. That should silence your problem without immediately making your neighbor aware of the problem.

Evil

Only an evil person would hang wind chimes near the sleeping area of another. Check your local noise ordinance. You may need to get a sound meter.

Complain to the police and take these jerks to court. You have a right to peace and privacy.

This is no different than putting speakers out your window.

problem is wind chimes will never generated enough noise to be classifid leagely as disturbing the peace.

Annoying to some not really much can do about it. short of asking the neighbors to take them down.

As I said earlier in these tread I like the sound of wind chimes

sounds like you need to do a little guerilla removal!

If my neighbor laughed in my face when I asked them nicely to assist my ability to sleep, all bets would be off.

that string can't be that strong!! ;)

Greatest sarcasm post in a long time.

Good info in here for our situation thanks.

Livermore CA is as windy as Chicago, y'know where we use wind for power with the propellers in the hills?

I've tried talking to my neighbors next door about the barking dogs excessive light usage and pool that has turned to a swamp. Eventually the city had to get involved because they blew us off. On top of that they have the dreaded wind chimes assualt. We get gusts of up to 60 miles per hour here and these people hang oversized approx 3 feet long on the front of thier garage. So if the city says it ok they really could care less, they are truely unconcientious of anyone but themselves. I brought thier neglected dog back after it ran away and discovered that they have 2 more 2 foot wind chimes on thier front porch. Don't forget about the 25 flag pole in the front yard thats lights up like a x-mas tree every night. I put a pool and garden on that side of my house years ago before they decided to start all this stuff and it is an area of tranqulity and peace for my wife and I who work very hard to keep up with a California Bay Area mortgage. That is our decision but c'mon these folks are over the top. These chimes are pumping some heavy decibel levels with tubes that are probably an 1" 1/2 in diameter. I excercise my dog by riding my bike and have checked through the entire hood and nobody else seems to have them because they get it.
And as far as "bigger" things in the world to worry about that's all relative because problems start with poeple in small ways. My neighbors were WAY over defensive and hypersensitve when we confronted them about thier nasty pool and untrained barking dogs and other neighbors have confirmed it with me. Forget about sleeping with it try just being around your own house and putting up with it. I think they have major issues. I'm bulding an 80 foot long, 7 foot high stucco wall to just wall them off.

I am avery spiritual person who holds life with reverence so this hurts to say but...I tried reason & they don't have any so we build a wall...these people are a complete neighborhood failure and are more igniorant than a flea.

Ah I feel better now.

BUT, people in Chicago (aka The Windy City) shouldn't be allowed to buy them! It seems as though the subtle tones of them on a hot summer evening would be soothing so say someone who doesn't experience wind often. But Chicago?!!

People in Chicago that sleep with our windows open hear the Fire Department, Police and Ambulances NON STOP!. I also live by the Children's Memorial Hospital and hear the ambulances and the helicopter going into the emergency department all day and all night (the helicopter not as much). I think a set of wind chimes would be kind of relaxing to here in the city.

On the other side of the argument when I go to my parents house in the sticks their set of wind chimes that are outside my old room drive me nuts. As well as the clock they put in the hallway that rings every 15 minutes. (instead of counting sheep when I can't sleep there I count the number of rings from the clock)

wow... old thread! :D but then i'm just discovering this section of macryumors..... i TOTALLY agree that wind chimes where other homes can hear them is wvil!!! i'm fortunate that i'm pretty far from my neighbors (although in the past their music has bothered me) i can hear a dog barking from a block away (when our windows are open at night)....

If its windy I might understand, but generally they're quite tranquil. Maybe you need to shut your window or get double glazing.
[doublepost=1505856327][/doublepost]Why should I have to close my Windows? I want fresh air in my house. I do not appreciate the noise or the smoking coming from my neighbors. They are not approachable. They use foul language and tell me too close my doors and windows? Landlord doesn't care. This is all night long, they also talk on speaker phone all hours of the night on patio that is right next to my winddown. The woman doing this is NOT on the lease according to the landlord. But the landlord let's her stay. I thought I was moving into a smoke free place since my lease said no smoking!
I called the police at 3:30 AM and the police hoped at 7:00 AM with 8 officers????

Good grief; what a bizarre thread full of obsessive and neurotically sensitive - and occasionally obsessive - individuals.

All this stuff about those having wind chimes being "bad people" makes me want to go out and buy a nice, Buddhist themed set of them....gentle tinkling and all.

But then, given that I have slept through earthquakes and thunder storms, (and, indeed, security alarms), I'd fail both the 'wind chime' test and the "Princess and the Pea" test. Completely.

I'll admit I had a windchime once. It was stolen. Something told me it was stolen for a reason. Not because someone else admired my adoring dolphin windchime. ;)

Who wouldn't want dolphin windchimes ..

We have the same issues with the little dogs yelping next door at any time of day and night..

Most wind chimes sound crappy. When I got them I got high end tuned ones that are very musical and also pretty quiet you can just here them in the house. I have one set that sound like the Westminster chimes. if your interested here they are. it is pretty amazing all the different ones they have. https://musicofspheres.com

I hate those things. I had a neighbor in my old condo who had one on her balcony. I politely asked her to take them down and she responded by adding a second. After a few more weeks, I said **** it and climbed her balcony one night late and took her wind chimes. Problem solved.

I put speakers on my balcony because I find the sound of gangsta rap soothing.

Time for you guys to upgrade to double-glazed windows, because I can't sleep without that deep bass.

The best part of this thread is the user who registered - bumped a thread that had been dormant for ~8 years - wrote a ranting reply, and only posted to MR this _one_ time and hasn't' logged in for over 10 weeks.

The icing on the cake was they took the time to upload a profile photo, hahahaha .... :D

I happen to love wind chimes so much that even if I were to be woken up by them, I wouldn't mind (I never have been, but I wouldn't mind).

My landlord has 12 wind chimes sets on his porch. You wouldn't wanna live here :D
