Were those 15" or 13" models? I have yet to read a complaint about a 15" Early 2013 model with IR.

Not that I needed to run the test, but mine is a 2.8/16GB/768GB rMBP, looks absolutely amazing does this display, but just for fun following the discussion, my MBP has an LG screen.

I do not have any issues what so ever. The display is gorgeous, nothing wrong with it, no dead pixels.. no complaints...

If I did not know about this forum, I would be none the wiser. Then again, from reading on here, sounds like people jump at the chance to get a Samsung display and keep taking screens back until they hit the so called screen jackpot, so whilst they do not get IR, they do however complain about yellowing...

If it looks good, keep it, you shouldn't be looking for manufacturer details and THEN making an decision to keep it or not.

Mine? LG. Issues? None. Was there any need to check? No.

Exactly. I am in the same position. Mine is a couple of days old and does in fact have a LG screen. I won't run the IR test. If it develops problems down the road I will get it replaced. No need to look for problems. I'm just enjoying my machine.

Agree 100%. I just received my 2013 15" rMBP with an LG screen and if I notice problems, I will get it replaced. In no way am I going to look for them

Just bought an used 15.4 / 2.7 / 768 / 16 rMBP from a guy who bought it on December 31st, 2012 from MacMall as an open box for $2,650 ; it replaced my 2.3 /256 / 16 rMBP which I sold for $2k.. The unit is in like new condition and reported from Apple a warranty valid until December 8, 2013 so this machine is a late 2012 product, or else was waiting to be sold for a while. I run the test and, like my previous 2.3 model, has the LG screen. The previous machine did showed a little of IR on the checkers test, but no actual shading under my normal use.

Does someone knows if late 2012 rMBP (Pre 2013 models) with LG screens showed IR as well? I have not done the test as of yet, but I'm curious. Anyway, just like in the old machine, I purchased AppleCare for it, so am covered until 12-8-2015.

after readying this thread.. looks like the answer is yes

I always find it funny when people tend to generalize that LG is crap and samsung is great.

I know some users claim they have issues and i understand that apple should fix that, but we should not mix things up.

I can speak for myself, having a retina 2,7, 768, 16gb since october with an LG display and despite running some tests i dont see any issues at all with my screen. No image retention, no dead pixels, nothing.

i even use it plugged to an external screen and despite leaving there pictures/itunes for hours, there is no image retention when closed.

the screen is great, vibrant and the best i have seen on a laptop.

I follow thees threads since i feel the pain of the affected members but stating that all LGs are crap is not only reductive but inaccurate as well.

yes they are rotten apples but, luckily, there are some great ones as well.

I exchanged mine which was 4 days old for the new 2.4 GHz version and my old screen was LG and the new one is Samsung. I didn't have any problems with the LG screen though.

Hello Sir,

Can you give me your specs of the old one and the new one that you own?

Thanks. :)

I just picked up a new 15" rMBP on Monday. 2.7, 512SSD

It has an LG screen. I put it through the IR tests and it actually performed well. I'm satisfied with the brightness, uniformity, and color accuracy.

However, this thing cracks and creaks like crazy. I'm going to take it in tomorrow to see if tightening the bottom case helps. If not, I'll return it cross my fingers for a Samsung screen, which as everyone suggests is the marginally better panel.

There have been other posts that suggest the IR on LG panels is somewhat progressive-- "even if you don't have IR issues now, just wait six months and you will."

Is there any truth to that?

Bought mine a month after launch, LG, it had IR but it was acceptable as it wasn't noticeable to the point that it'd distract me from what i'm doing. A few days ago, i had the screen off to watch a movie on my TV connected to the rMBP, right after I had done watching, turned the screen back on and IR was right there with the window I had left open during the movie and it remained on screen for at least half an hour. I'm going to be bringing this back next week.

Are you being serious?

The vast majority of LG displays are absolutely fine - if not better than most Samsungs IMO.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "early" panels were quite a bit worse, right? Just from my observations, there seem to be less complaints about the 2013 models, and overall, the complaints have seemed to lessen dramatically over the last 3-5 months. That leads me to believe something along the line was changed to lessen the issue.

On my new screen, I don't have any IR whatsoever after an hour of the IR test. Or, if I do, it's so minor I can't detect it. I just don't want to have to get the screen replaced, say, six months down the road.

Is there a technical reason the IR would worsen over time? I know quite a bit about displays and I can't think of any "real" reason the display would deteriorate... Am I missing something?

i got my mbpr a few days ago, LG panel (SJA2-Version), until now no IR visible (made a few tests, for 5 - 10 - 15 mins), screen looks great, but i don't know what to do because some people are saying it could come also after weeks/months??

can anyone explain why some displays show this issues already from the beginning and why some others look great at the beginning and the the issue become worse? if it's a technical display problem it should come up from the beginning, not in a few weeks??

my mbpr is from week 10/2013
does someone have a IR problem with the same production week?

How can you tell your machine's production week?

Did you run a test or you know that because you order it to the factory and it was built that week based on your order information?

please check, im wondering if apple is still using LGs (crap) or if its samsung (sometimes crap) only.

there is a rumor again on the discussion board on apple.com that apple may have actually stopped using LGS on their updated 15 inch.

I did the IR test yesterday by using this site: http://www.mitchmalone.name/retina-test/

I run the 10 minute test (result below) on my LG (SJA1) rMBP didn't notice any image retention.

My previous basic 2.3 rMBP had an LG screen and did showed IR on the test. Based on Chipmunk my machine is week 38 (September 2012); know not every LG shows IR, apparently mine is one of the good ones; if something goes wrong in the near future, I'm covered until December 8, 2015 thanks to the Apple Care plan purchased along with it.

No offense, but if I see one more screenshot trying to show IR, I'm gonna lose it. It shows such a basic misunderstanding of the issue, it's impossible to take any of their claims seriously.
