k, so for some reason, parallels 7 recommends only 512mb ram.
that was odd for me, but i went along with it..
and i gotta admit.. its so much quicker.
also seems like the virtualization supports dualcore better or something, because now the 2 core usage is much faster than the parallels 6 was..
anyways, i like it alot. worth the upgrade in my opinion (if you're very demanding performance-wise), im yet to check battery impact.

Is Parallels better than Virtualbox? Virtualbox is free, why would I pay extra for Parallels? What does it offer that Virtualbox doesn't?

Parallels supports more 3D games than VirtualBox and other solutions.

That aside, just pushed my Air up to Lion, and I'm immediately seeing benefits.

Fullscreen mode now takes up its own space. Since fullscreen gestures work per usual, it's like Windows itself is just an application under OSX. Switching between OSX and Windows, any version, is extremely fast now, and my productivity is greatly boosted.

Parallels 6 had problems with fullscreen under Lion, and it messed up gestures as well. This is a much appreciated fix.

Aside from that, there seems to be some slight performance improvement with regards to graphics. Not sure about CPU though, since running emulators under Windows still taxes the CPU greatly.

Free Upgrade Possible?

Yesterday I installed Parallels 6 and activated with a free activation key that I received from work (Parallels gives them out to us employees)

I tried updating it and I got the "your version is up-to-date" message. Do you guy know i'll be able to upgrade to version 7 free of charge starting Tuesday? That's when it'll be available for a free upgrade to customers who have purchased a copy of Parallels 6 in the last week or so.

I know i didn't purchase it but would i fight in that category of user eligible for a free upgrade?

I have been running Parallels 6 for one year. I just purchased Parallels 7 for $39.00 with an education discount (work for a university). I didn't have an option to purchase "upgrade" for my discount so I have the full version to download. I am a little concerned about how this will install since Parallels 6 is already on my iMac. I also have the OED version of Windows 7 so I can't just uninstall everything and start over. Any suggestions?

The reason for me to jump to Apple is the problems with microsoft os , I do not see the point of upgrading if there is not much significant changes
