Just got this from magpul

Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately we do not have an ETA on the iPhone 5 case as we are still in the beginning stages of the design. I would suggest checking our website for more details in about a month, possibly two. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for posting this. I was afraid of something like this, as I know that iphone cases are certainly not Magpul's focus in any way. Luckily I got my Switcheasy Tones to hold me over until I see what Magpul eventually comes out with

I'm holding up upgrading til Magpul comes out.

I do have this oily thing on the back of mine currently...but it's odd it won't clean off.

I spoke with customer service at Magpul today. She informed me that the Magpul case for the iphone 5 would be released end of Jan or first of Feb. She said they didn't get the dimensions until the iphone 5 was released. It's in the working.

I love the magpul cases for the iphone4, but they had a few problems.

1: they tend to stretch out over time. This is much much much better in the second generation cases, but the first run didn't fare so well.

2: oily residue. Probably related to the first problem. Also much better in the second run cases.

Both of these faults are overshadowed by the fact that the cases feel great in the hand, fit perfectly (just the right about of overhang), and are dirt dirt dirt dirt cheap.

per Magpul on their Facebook page: 12/8/12 Magpul Industries Corp. Unfortunately, it looks like after Christmas...but not too long after.

Thanks for the update. Really looking forward to getting this case when it comes out.

I like the Tones case for the iP5 better than the Field or Exec Magpuls I had for my 4S.

Doesn't stretch, no flash problems, gives the same open lip on the front, and fits tighter. Volume buttons are better.

So I'm not waiting for the Magpuls.

I love my Tones case well; however, I like the way the Magpul feels in my hand and I also like the ribs along the edges because they seem to give me a better grip. They're both great cases though. Magpul is much cheaper but they also have that oily residue issue.

Well, it's finally out! Magpul announced on it's page that you can preorder from some stores, and the item has been listed in their online catalogue.

Per Magpul's Facebook:
Our news is not all doom and gloom - Field Cases for the iPhone 5 are shipping this Friday! New material, new camera/flash port geometry, same look, made in the USA and only $12.95. We will also be introducing some new colors, so look for those in the weeks ahead, as well as a revamped 4/4S case with the same tweaks. http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG452

My dearest 4S didn't want to wake up this morning... and still refuses to switch on. Took the magpul case off just to discover the oily residue that you guys have been discussing here. I wonder if that could have killed my 4S. Yes, I do live in a hot and humid climate but the past few days I haven't used it outside in the sun so there is no way it got overheated. Hasn't been dropped either. Could it be that this oily residue was the cause of it?...

An update from Magpul about the iPhone 5 Field Case:

http://www.magpul.com/field-case-for-iphone-5-released.html

We are happy to announce that our Field Case for the iPhone 5 will be shipping Friday, February 22nd! The field case is a semi-rigid design designed for snag-free removal from pockets, protection from minor impacts and drops, low-profile PMAG-style ribs for added grip, and a single-piece snap-on design for easy installation and removal. Black will release first, with all of the other colors and several new ones to follow!

We have tweaked both the design and the material for even better durability and improved camera/flash port geometry. Because of the material change, the MSRP for the new revision will be $12.95. The Field Case for iPhone 4/4S is getting the same revamp, and will be out soon.

I guess now we wait for distributors to get them before we can order them.
