So the 16 Pro is my first iPhone with the AOD (came to it from a 13 Pro). Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but can anybody give me a compelling reason to leave AOD enabled? I have an Apple Watch so I don't need to look at my phone for the time or notifications, what life changing feature am I missing out on if I leave AOD turned off?

Sure seems less useful if you’re always wearing your watch, but it probably doesn’t use much battery at 1Hz and 1nit

I don’t wear my watch at home often, where I work, so I like to be able to glance at my phone and see if there are any notifications.

It's nice to be able to look over at your phone on a desk and see the time & notifications. It also looks cool I guess?

It's one of those features that Android had so Apple probably felt they needed to get on board. They did it better by having the actual full display and gave you the option to turn it off if you just don't care. So I don't think there really is a point but if you want it, it's there.

Live activities can give you more information on your phone then watch, like keeping up with a sporting event like MLB you can look down and see pitch by pitch, where it only updates on the watch with runs scored.

Live activities.

Keeping up with scores, either from the Apple Sports app, or the MLB app is fantastic without having to open the phone.

Completely pointless with an Apple Watch. I have had it off on my 14 pro max and my 15 pro max for the last 2 years

No super mega compelling reasons, but i like it.

Leave it on for a month and then decide 🙃

I don’t mess with AOD or even raise-to-wake, simply because FaceID can unlock the phone so quick sometimes that I don’t want to grab my phone and accidentally press a widget or notification.

I’ve got a widget that’s my list of tasks due for work (Asana app) and I love seeing what I have due front and center but you can also complete the tasks from the widget and some of my tasks set off chain reactions once completed that tell other employees to start a task, etc.

I've been using the always on display with my 14 Pro for the last couple of years (also have Apple Watch).

I really like the always on display. I like that I can quickly glance at my phone whenever and see what notifications I have very quickly, especially helpful for messages and emails. I also have my calendar as a widget on the home screen so I can quickly glance to see what time my next meeting/etc is.

Whereas with my Apple Watch, I have to look for the little red dot at the top of the screen, then pull down from the top to scroll through my notifications to me it's definitely more cumbersome than just quickly glancing at my phone screen.

(The iPhone AOD is especially great in meetings... I can check for notifications and it's not even obvious that I'm doing this because all I'm doing is glancing at my phone screen...)

This, plus I rarely wear my watch at home.

Went from non AOD 14+ to 16 Pro just for the AOD.

AOD is my main reason I upgraded this year for 2 major reasons:

1. Phone as a key (PAAK) w/ AOD works with my EV without having to unlock the non AOD phone, then open the app in order to unlock the car or open the frunk, trunk or start climate controls remotely.

2. WiFi connectivity automatically switches from home, in car hotspot, to work seamlessly with AOD.

My 14+ is a great battery life phone, but without AOD, I can't do the PAAK and WiFi auto switchover.

For myself, I can quickly check the battery status of my iPhone, AW, and Air Pods. Also glance at notifications I might have missed. And it looks nice when docked in my car vs a blank display.

I don't like busy watchfaces with a thousand complications on it. So when it comes to quick glances of info without touching anything, AOD wins.

This. It’s not very useful but the competition had it.
