i'm sure it would be the exact same application as the AIM mobil which does allow you to chat with a cell number, you can also email with a cell number.. I like having all of the options because all my friends have different preferences.
that seems redundant to me. Something you can do ONLINE just, not through a browser.. its like the ebay app.. seems redundant to me.
At WWDC, while Scott Forstall was explaining the Push Notification Service, there was an app on the screen entitled "IM", does anyone know if that was the AIM IM app, or if that was an Apple-official IM app?
Anyone want Adium for iPhone instead?

Probably just a mock up so people would get the point that it would work with an IM app.
AT&T charges AIM messages as texts when you are on AIM through texting. If you are talking to people on AIM via text messages then you are charged for texts. I highly doubt that when AOL releases AIM that when you send messages THROUGH AIM you will NOT be charged for texts. Because, it isn't texting, it's AIM.
Oh, I see. If you're on the AIM app though, will you be able to receive other peoples messages (if they're sending them through their texts, and not AIM)
They might release at launch but unless Apple makes an exception for them running a background process it will be useless until the new notification servers are up in September.
you should read the rest of this post about the push and background apps.
call me neive, but what kind of APP would you need for myspace? I can get on myspace.com easily from my iphone and bop around on there.. Would it just be a mobil myspace where you can add pictures to?
You should read the date on the quote you're citing (hint: this is quote from the SDK event, we already knew AIM was working on an IM app, the functionality of it will be limited prior to the launch of the notification servers this September).
Oh, and the reason why AIM counts as text messages on your plan of your other phones is that it isn't AIM, rather it is AIM via SMS. They're effectively routing IM through the SMS system. With a real IM app they won't charge you.
