just received an email back about the release date...

At the moment, we are looking at some time around the 3rd week of May... Unfortunately, I don't have an exact date to give you at this time. The best I can do is to have you keep checking back.

Could you please help me out with this... Do I need the additional "Breakout Box" to connect my studio monitors via XLR?
Need? No, at least not at first. If you only hook this up once to home studio gear and never move it then the BoC will probably be fine.

But if it's anything like the BoC for the original Duet, it might not hold up to the rigors of playing out live. Worse still, it's a one-of-a-kind BoC, so the day it fails on you out in the field you'll be SOL.

IMO, the BoB is easily worth the additional $80, though I'd prefer to at least see it come with a backup proprietary cable (to go between the Duet2 and the BoB) or to have them sell the proprietary cables online as an accessory.

At least the TSoundPro BoB for the original Duet offered additional cables -- and you could mod one from a stock 15-pin VGA cable with a pair of needle-nose pliers in a pinch. Not that you'd need to, those cables were durable as hell. Unfortunately, the pictures I've seen of the Duet2 BoC and BoB cable so far both look like they are made with the same dainty-gauge wire as the BoC for the previous Duet.

i talked to guitar center yesterday and they seem to be getting the duet 2s in around the 16th, so i would expect them actually hitting the retails stores around the 3rd week of may

just like apogee said

duet 2 vs. symphony

has anyone here actually A/B'd duet 2 to the Symphony? i'm loving the portablilty of duet 2 but the 'blood relative' part worries me...

does anyone know just how close a 'relative' the ADA conversion and pre sections are to Symphony's? thank you.

i recently had some issues with the duet 2 randomly shutting off during sessions but after reinstalling the newest version of the software, it's been fine :)

Same here. It seemed the Duet 2 is not "starting up" anymore, kept hanging with the "A" on the display.
After a couple of tries unplugging and replugging, there was a warning message on the Duet 2 display, saying something like "make sure you have the latest software installed".
Uninstalled the software, downloaded the latest version, after restarting my Mac Mini the Maestro 2 Software told me that there is a firmware update available, so I did that and since then it's running perfectly again. :)

The current release drivers (October 2011) + firmware update seems to be stable for me in both 10.7.2 and 10.6.8. So far, no initialization problems at boot or coming out of standby.

One thing I don't like is the duetUSBDaemon sitting there constantly chewing on CPU at idle. It doesn't seem to be any different when recording or playing audio.

Can anybody else confirm they see the same thing?

Anybody here using this for needledrops? I am thinking about buying this for ripping vinyl from my Rega RP3 turntable and Moon 110LP phono preamp.

'Non-responsive' Duet 2?

Hey folks

Using an Apogee Duet 2 (AD2).

Plugged in my laptop after 8 months of not using the AD2 (it was sitting in my studio). When I use the dial to increase/decrease the level of the computer (Mac), the temporary Mac OS icon comes up and shows the level increasing and decreasing, BUT its greyed out, and the level of the computer is not increasing or decreasing.. Its like a setting is 'turned off' or something. I checked/changed all settings in Maestro software; installed latest firmware; did hard-reboot (factory reset); took it to a local music store (guy says its broken - I don't believe him as he's been wrong in the past); tried contacting Apogee - haven't heard back - they take too long to respond....

The dial is clearly connected to the OS in some capacity, to show the level increase/decrease, but I don't believe its 'broken'...

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks

Ben

Since you haven't used it in 8 months, there are probably software updates you haven't installed.

What I'm saying, is that interfaces like this are cheap commodities. Class compliant - one end plugs into the computer, the other end into the midi device. No drivers needed. Done.

I apologize for hi Jacking thread. Short question, Is there a forum for Apogee Duet users? I just got one and will probably have questions. Or.... is there a subforum here. That would be the best since I'm getting fuzzy on my mac stuff regardless of being a 20 year plus mac user for music production.
