Will this be another paid upgrade cause it required "a complete rewrite" to include 2 modular features?

if so I'm finally done with this app.

I'd happily pay for an upgrade, it's peanuts considering how useful it is. Do you think developers work on thin air... do you work for free?

New API's take time to integrate, especially one with this kind of functionality.

Not sure if replacing my complex password with a 4 digit numeric code is a good idea.

According to one of their employees' responses to a question on their forum, support for iOS 8 will be a free update...

This really is the way how Touch ID should've worked in the first place.
Great to see it does now anyway. This will force me to get a new iPhone after my 5;)

LastPass to do something similar?

http://blog.lastpass.com/2014/06/what-apples-announcements-could-mean.html

From that blog post, it sounds like the LastPass folks are looking into the similar integration. This could be the one killer feature that would get me to switch to 1Password if they don't.

Also interesting in the comments of that blog post, many are not wanting to replace their password entry with TouchID, but to have it be another factor of ID or to replace filling in their username/email.

Hopefully, in both apps, there will be options.

What 4/5 touch events? You're kidding?

Right now I have to:

  • Boot 1P
  • Type in a 10 digit password
  • Search for the website login details
  • Click 'copy' on the username
  • Double tap the home button
  • Select Safari
  • Paste the username
  • Double tap the home button
  • Tap 1P again
  • Type in a 4 digit passphrase
  • Click 'copy' on the password
  • Double tap the home button
  • Select Safari
  • Paste the password
  • Click 'Submit / Enter'

4 taps opposed to 30 is fine with me.

With iCloud Keychain it's 0 or 1 depending on it filling the details automatically or you needing to tap auto fill button. This anyway too many steps.

True, and it would be great if 3rd party apps could get the same level of integration as iCloud Keychain but, for those extra touches you get a lot.

I'm not a 1Password user but have been using LastPass for years and I currently have to do a similar dance as designaholic described (although there is a bookmarklet way to streamline it at the cost of lowering security a bit). The added features are worth the extra key presses IMO, chief of them being cross browser and cross platform support as well as the family/team sharing features.

I could list the features LastPass gives over iCloud Keychain, but this blog pretty much sums it up: http://mac.appstorm.net/reviews/synchronization/lastpass-vs-icloud-keychain/

Hopefully LastPass does something similar.

I conceptually like 1Password but it's just so god damned expensive…

Just wait for a %50 off sale, that's what I did. It's one of one app I paid for and felt I got more than my money's worth. The support is great also. The few questions I asked, they got back to me right away.

Or you can type the username in yourself and save many steps!

I get that this app offers a lot more than just saving your web logins, but for just that iCloud Keychain is much better, faster and cheaper. You just need to be honest with yourself to understand that.

I'm unlikely to switch to 1password if LastPass doesn't implement something similar but it will be pretty annoying if they don't. Thankfully I have faith that they will take advantage of this as they already blogged about it a month ago.

At LastPass, we're committed to innovation and implementing the latest technologies to deliver the best possible user experience. We look forward to further exploring the possibilities of iOS 8.

This is fantastic!

Extensions is probably the best and the most useful new feature in iOS 8.

In general iOS 8 brought big under-the-hood changes. Extensions, Nitro engine available to all browsers, Camera APIs, HomeKit, HandOff, MFi headset support.

Yes, but keychain is not trying to be that and for what it does you will not get a better app from a 3rd party.

It's great, but I have a feeling it will be buried under tons of menus just like in this case Touch ID for 3rd party apps.

Any chance of Adblock in Safari?

Sure. But how do you log into your accounts on a Windows or Linux computer? What if you need to use or prefer to use a different browser? 1Password does more than iCloud keychain.

Good points. the search alone in 1Password is great. Having over 60 log ins now and trying to find the log in I need in iCloud Keychain is a joke. It also holds software licenses, notes, drivers licenses, reward cards, email account info (not just the password), network settings, and the list goes on. To me iCloud keychain is a box that you throw all you passwords in one spot (like a shoe box that isn't organized at all) and 1Password is a file cabinet and organizes all the info too.

Like khedden said, this works with other browsers and OS's, and if you sync to Dropbox, you can assess info anywhere.

Don't be a jerk. Agile Bits is one of the good ones. And 1Password is an incredible application. I'd gladly pay for this new version. Whatever the developers decide to do is fine with me.

Fantastic! I can't wait to try this out.

See my previous posts for beta access, assuming you are running the iOS 8 beta. It does require that :)

Will extensions like this be compatible with Chrome and other 3rd party browsers?

Still waiting for more on this, so, sadly nothing really to discuss here at this time. Admittedly it would be pretty neat.

This is fantastic news. One of my longest standing wishes for things I could do on iOS. iCloud Keychain came close to filling that need, but it's way too limited compared to 1Password. I only wish this would work in apps outside of Safari like Keychain will, which I suppose won't be possible since there aren't share sheets on the login screen of apps.

Never know, it would be a pretty cool feature though :)

I'm really digging the 1Password 4.6.BETA-1 with TouchID support.

You have to continue to use a master password but you can set it to its max so that it's only needed when launching the app every 30-days and the rest of the time you can just use TouchID when launching the app which is all sorts of awesome.

Unfortunately with the Safari plug-in, you need to use your master password every time you go into the browser, rather than just being able to use TouchID. TouchID which is a drag. Hopefully they'll adjust that so they have that same max 30-day window as when launching the app.

The Safari plug-in is pretty buggy with lots of times where it it's blank in fields that should have data. But hey it's Beta 1 of their app so overall I give them TONS of kudos for getting so much right!

I'm not sure we can reduce the auto-lock settings with regard to the Safari extension. I believe the extension sort of has it's own state and it's always going to be locked. It's not a long running process like the iOS app is. I'll pass this feedback along though just in case it is possible to do more here.

Looking forward to all the new things coming. iPhone 6, IOS8, Yosemite and now this news. 1Password just keeps getting better. And for the people that complain about the price, give it a try first. Bet you will be pretty happy with what you get for the price.

Thanks for the awesome support! We're glad to know you're a happy user :)

1Password was the first app that I thought of for a Safari extension AND Touch ID. I never use the built-in app browser, I just copy and paste the password after unlocking with my complex password which takes some time to tap out. I manage a lot of websites for work and my freelance, as well as a plethora of social media accounts that I'm a backup on, databases, and new internet services that I sign up to try. I literally have hundreds of passwords (using the complex passwords in 1Password that are generally over 20 characters) that I could never remember otherwise.

If the developer is still here reading these comments, know that I love your software. However recent versions have had trouble syncing over iCloud, and there is a bug now with several websites (such as Amazon) where the auto fill from the mini browser plugin on the Mac won't go through unless I manually paste my password. Please fix! Thanks.

This looks promising! Using 1Password myself for a long time now and this would be very helpful!

We're looking forward to showing more in the future. Keep your eyes peeled closer to iOS 8 launch :)

This is so exciting to see... I haven't been as excited for a version of iOS since Apple finally announced they would allow tethering or perhaps when the App Store was first released. iOS8 looks so amazing...Can't wait!

iCloud Keychain is great as long as all you want to do is store passwords on OSX and iOS. If that's all you need, by all means keep using iCloud Keychain.

For the rest of us that need cross platform support, support in multiple browsers, and storage of much more than just passwords, 1Password is the best solution out there hands down.

We haven't announced anything officially about whether it'll be an upgrade or not. It's too far away and we don't want to spoil all the news prior to release.

Keep your eyes peeled closer to iOS 8 release. Our blog or newsletter would be the best ways of keeping up to speed.

I'd happily pay for an upgrade, it's peanuts considering how useful it is.

Thanks for your support :)

This is completely optional. You're free to continue using 1Password just like it is today or you can take advantage of these new features in the future if you wish.

I'd gladly pay for this upgrade. Devs need to make money to stay in business.

How can I give this a thumbs up? :)

Thanks for the awesome support! We want to make as many people happy as we can but it does put a smile on my face when we see people willing to pay for great features like this.
