iOS 8 is going to be amazing.
PS: For anyone that's jailbroken on iOS 7.1.2, iTouchSecure in Cydia has third party Touch ID access. I'm using that to hold me over until the fall.
Thanks for the heads up just bought iTouchSecure.

I love 1password use it all the time. However, I question how the encryption works on the backend. The current database is encrypted with your password. How does it work now ? Is my plain text password being encrypted and then the TouchKitID token is used to decrypt that in a chain ?
I hope they release some tech specs on it or I won't consider using that feature.
From what I remember from the WWDC Keynote, the way Touch ID works for 3rd party Apps, is it basically sends what amounts to a yes or no authentication to the app.
From what I read in the forums, this is till a work in progress and there could be several options.
Prior to Touch ID, you had a couple of options as well.
- Use you master password for everything
- Lock on exit (Where the vault locks each time you leave the app or after 10 min inside the app.
- Use a 4 digit pin code to quickly access your data. This stores your master password in the iOS Keychain.
Your vault, no matter what, is created and encrypted using the master password. So, think of Touch ID being sort of like the PIN code feature:
1) You could choose to have your master password stored in the iOS keychain and then Touch ID will in essence, send the unlock code to 1Password, which will then auto unlock using the stored master password in the iOS keychain.
2) You can turn off the iOS keychain feature but then will have to unlock the vault using the master password. Then the Touch ID can then be used to access. This could then be set to require the master password once per reboot. Or set to require you to unlock the vault with the master password once per app session.
There could be other options as well. This is in beta and they are still testing and exploring various ways to use TouchID. Some people have even commented that hey would like Dual authentication. For example, using TouchID along with a pin code each time.
Great job AgileBits. Looking forward to an iPhone 6 with Touch ID so I can get in on some of the fingerprint goodness.
I've used eWallet for years (since 2003 when I got my first smartphone) but I'm not sure the developers will include this functionality and I'm very intrigued since I expect I'll get a new iPad with touchID this fall.
So I have a question I'm sure someone who uses 1Password can answer. (I did look at their website and couldn't find my answer). What level of encryption does 1Password use? I know my current app uses 256-bit. Anyone know?
It looks like exporting and importing my data would be a real pain (if it's even possible) but maybe worth it. Really glad Apple is finally opening up a bit to allow this type of integration. First time I've been this excited about an iOS update.
Since the moment TouchID was launched we were promised legions of criminals and muggers with cigar choppers to chop off your fingers. Seriously, where are they?Really wish they would add a temperature sensor into the touch ID, at least to prevent iPhone robberies & dismemberment - has to be a warm blooded fingerprint scan.
Pulse detector would be nice too...
Hi Donna![]()
We're happy to welcome you to the 1Password side of the pond if you want to come on over.
We use 256-bit encryption in version 4 for locally stored data. We use the same when syncing to iCloud. Currently when syncing via Dropbox we use 128-bit but this will eventually move to the same format as iCloud. It's just a matter of getting all applications capable of reading the new format and then we can change the default. I'm not sure when this will happen but I hope it's sooner rather than later because there are much bigger improvements with regard to syncing performance with the new format which I am more excited about
Now, before you start looking at me like I'm crazy I'd love to explain something that not many realize but 128-bit encryption is incredibly secure. The reasons for why we switched are linked below in a blog post written by our security expert on the topic:

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have as well. If you'd like a more one on one discussion feel free to PM me, or hit the Contact Us link in my signature and email in. Just mention my name and I'll get you any answers you need.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm aware that 128-bit is very secure but glad to hear you'll be moving up soon. Personally, even with encryption I tend to keep my 'stuff' locally. I'm a bit old school (and old too ...) and don't particularly like using someone else's 'cloud'. Just a matter of choice.
Once iOS 8 is out I'll check further. The data migration will probably be a huge issue. I don't think eWallet supports delimited text. Retyping all that info will take a really, really long time. But perhaps worth it. Plus I'm sure I need to clean it up and dump a bunch of old passwords etc.
This is very exciting. I worked in software development for almost 30 years. Kind of makes me miss the excitement of working on a new project. (long hours, stubborn users, stubborn devs, impossible deadlines, impossible requirements, meetings, meetings, meetings - I was a project manager for most of the time. Ok, maybe I don't miss it too much). If I wanted to get a dev account and try the beta iOS 8 I would love to be a beta tester. Lots of experience....but retirement and my grandkids are just too much fun these days.
I wish you good luck and have fun!
You're very welcome
We offer wifi sync as well as the various cloud syncing solutions. This keeps your data 100% local so if you're cloud adverse you can use that option.
I am not familiar with eWallet but if you want to discuss import options I can certainly walk you through those. Off hand we support:
- CSV
- SplashID
- LastPass
- 1Password Interchange File (1PIF)
There's also a user on our forums who has written some scripts to convert from other solutions to something we can read. I can link that to you if you want it, I'd rather do it privately since it's not really an officially supported set of scripts and I'd like to avoid publicly posting it outside of our own forums for that reason.
The other option is to simply use the 1Password Extension on a Mac or PC. In doing this you goto a site and if eWallet fills the data in we can save it prior to you submitting the login. This means you do have some manual effort but no typing/copy/pasting to do.
Let me know if I can do anything to help!
Sure... if you only use apple devices and the safari browser.
But i use Chrome on my Mac and at work we use Windows.. good luck with Keychain there.
Well, I do. The main reason I don't use Chrome is because it doesn't use my keychain for some reason.
I get that this app offers a lot more than just saving your web logins, but for just that iCloud Keychain is much better, faster and cheaper. You just need to be honest with yourself to understand that.
