“Today“ received a similar amount of pushback when it debuted, and people stopped complaining about that new features years ago as they became accustomed to the new functionality.

The "Today" screen actually makes sense. The App Library, as is, doesn't.

The more I use IOS 14 the more I realized I almost never go to the app library section. It's not that hard to not swipe all the way to the right. People are asking why you can't turn it off, yet if you don't swipe all the way to the right and just ignore it, it seems like you can turn it off.
Seems like there are those who don't care about the Today View screen and would like to get rid of it, while there are those who like the App Library. So the same sort of subjective statement can be made the other way around too by some.
You are talking about a particular widget that you can select to use there (that being the Up Next and/or the Calendar widget). For some widgets can be useful, for others they aren't at all, in either case the Today View is there nonetheless.

Hypocrisy? Oooook. The “today” screen is really just a page that was dedicated to search, widgets and yes at one time, what was going on today. But it’s actually useful.
The App Library is redundant if you’re already categorizing your own apps. You can search for apps in the “today” screen as well.
Yes, you can continue to use iOS as you always have and ignore the App Library, but some don’t want it there.

Totally agree and some of my friends fall into that category. I have my pages the way I like them but was hoping to use App Library to display only the back few pages. I’ll just ignore it or now and hope it evolves like many features do.
Honestly, the biggest gripe I have about the App Library...can/would be solved by developers reevaluating how they categorize their apps. Off the top of my head, an app that comes to mind is NurseGrid (for my work schedule). It's in the "Health & Fitness" category. I think it would make more sense in "Productivity" or "Utilities".
I also have stargazing apps. Some in the "Education" category...some in "Information & Reading". Though I can't decide which of those two categories would make more sense for that type of app.

It’s pretty much just a drop down choice to change it. Feed back to the developers to help them.
Good to know, thanks! I'll get on that! As far as the stargazing apps I have, I definitely understand why I have some in one category and some in another. Both categories DO actually make sense, so for the developer, it might just come to which one makes just a little bit MORE sense.

This is my complaint as well. It auto groups apps it thinks go together. 2 of them make sense to me and the others are either seldom used or absolutely no use apps. But I can’t delete them from a suggested widget AND add in apps that makes sense to me. If I create an empty Widget I sometimes can’t have more than one app in it. I have a glucose monitoring program, that should go with health, right? Nope, Utilities. I don’t have a lot of social media programs. So NYTimes goes with Message goes with GPS Speedometer. I don’t care if the selections are a little wonky, I care that I can’t say I want these 2 or these 4 programs in my widget.

If you'd have read even a sampling of the posts in this thread, you would have learned that the categories are chosen by the app developer. Nothing you, I or anyone else can do... except use the home screen and folder system that has been with iOS since iOS 4.

Widgets were in the "Today" page first, so the rest your reasoning goes out the window.
You almost had it....gotta be a little quicker than that.....
Widgets can go on both screens, apps can go on both screens, so basically the same and my reasoning stands. Try again. 😉

I don't have widgets on the home screen or use the app library and use my phone exactly like I did before IOS 14 with no mind of the new features. Pretty hard to believe, eh? 😉
