Well you guys must have some sick iPhone's because mine never pushes and push is enabled. I don't use mobile me, and I rarely access the App Store on my iPhone. When there's an update, iTunes tell's me and I update from there and I never see the badge on the App Store icon unless I go into the store.

I use MobileMe and my iPhone never tells me automatically when apps have updates. I have to open up the update screen before it will tell me.

I'm sure it's the same way with every iPhone out there but people just think the iPhone app updates are being pushed. They just don't realize they have checked for updates first.

As I said before, I don't think the updates are being pushed, but rather the App Store checks for updates on a regular schedule. Notifications definitely appear without opening the App Store app.

Maybe you check the App Store too frequently to notice?

My wife's iPhone 3G, purchased at the end of November, also doesn't do the magical push. I confirmed last night that there was no number badge on the App Store icon. I then launched App Store, and lo and behold, there appeared a number badge that is still displayed this morning.

I don't believe Apple is testing 'push' using this on a select few iPhone handsets. For those of you who have been enjoying this cool feature, try restarting your iPhone and don't sync and don't launch App Store. See if the badge appears for you when updates become available.

mine does this too...

My app store comes up with red numbers or updates too... sometimes on days I don't use the appstore at all...

It's either it checks it everyday.. or its super slow...

who knows..

It works on mine and that's fine by me.

Currently, I know I have app updates (cause I checked on iTunes), but have no red badges on my app store icon. And, I have my push on. So, if these are being "pushed" then they're only "pushed" at certain times of the day (which, I guess, isn't true push).

I have also experienced this. I do believe the app store will periodically check to see if there are updates, possibly some set amount of time after a restart/respring. I dunno, but I have experienced it.

I don't need mobile me to have stuff pushed to my phone. And mobile me has absolutely nothing to do with the App Store or iTunes.

The question still remains, what are you expecting to be pushed to your iPhone? You said your iPhone never pushes and push is enabled. I thought you were looking for help.

My phone does the App Store auto-update as well. Has for a while now. But it's worth pointing out that it seems inconsistent. Sometimes it'll pop up with a '1', but sometimes it won't update for a long time and then just randomly update with like a '4' or something.

HOWEVER

I wish friggin iTunes would do this. I hate syncing and leaving the house, only to realize that there's a bunch of App updates I could have gotten done at the same time.

No, I don't need help. I'm just saying ... how are some people getting App Store notifications and some aren't (including me). I could care less actually but I just wanted to join the discussion.
