I agree.
Maybe they should put out a common sense app on the appstore:D
Then maybe install the Dont drink and drive app, dont do drugs app, dont hang out with the wrong people app, always wear your seatbelt app, the dont have sex app, and all kinds of other apps on her phone so you can controll and monitor your daughter 24/7.
Then the OP is giving us an attitude for stating the obvious. Really?

You had me on your side until you hit the don't have sex app. Sorry, but there are some things I just can't do. ;)

Hello,

I am sure I am not alone with this problem. I was curious if there is a good app for an iphone that will prevent my teenage daughter from texting while driving? I have seen a good one for Androids and Blackberries that uses the GPS signal in the phone.

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies for those of you trying to help. To all of those who want to judge me and my parenting abilities can kiss it...REALLY? Where do you get off telling me how to parent....freaking jerks.

are you serious?

arent there rumours of voice activation on IOS 5 so you can text and you can speak to text it?

My opinion on it is quite simple. If someone gets into an accident, the police check the phone records to see if a text was sent real close to the time of the accident(sudden accelerometer movements could be logged). All liability of that accident is put on the texter if the accident is found to be their fault. If someone texting and driving kills someone, loss of license for a number of years and possible jail time. As for parental controls, if the carriers were to track the gps speed when a text is sent(enabled by the parents when their kid is on their plan), parents could see if they were texting when they had the car for the night. The kid has to answer to the parent that either they were texting and driving or letting their friend drive their parents car.

So do you want the app to save your daughter or someone else? Or do you want to save her. Look, I am a teenager about to have my license and each time i get into the car my phone goes into the glove compartment. If I have to call 911 i can use my steering wheel.

I hate other teens who txt n drive. I get so infuriated with them. I'd go into an all CAPS RAGE but :mad:

Or they asked their friend or person over 21 in that car if on a JOL to send the txt for them. There is no perfect way to check. Just STOP TXTING

I wish more people (not just teens) would view things this way. If you have to use the phone, there is such thing as pulling over.

People don't take their driving seriously enough.

Truthfully, I drive better when I'm texting. Cause i'm consciously paying attention to what I'm doing.

What really scares me is that most people drive subconciously.

Yeah, I'm sure alcoholics say the same thing about driving. You are a menace, and I hope you stop doing this before you kill yourself or worse some one else.

Sadly you'll end up killing someone else and not yourself.

I guess you have issues you need to deal with first. Because what you're saying is disgustingly sad.

Anyway, looks like we pissed the OP off, don't think we'll be seeing the OP for a while unfortunately.

Dragon dictation is the beat app for that. You speak everyone and it translates it to text and the you can either email it or SMS it. Hope this helps. But as always encourage your teen not to do it. Im a firefighter and the scenes when this happens is not a pretty site!!

again...I appreciate the people on here who actually tried to answer the question...thanks!

To all of you self righteous jerks offs that keep posting to parent better or to give better advice to my daughter or to blah...blah...blah...stay out of the thread! If you can't just answer the simple question, then stay away! I don't need or want your over valued opinions!

Someone comes on the forum to ask a simple question and I get this! I know some of you blow hards are "vets" on this forum and you feel it is your duty to give people a hard time, but get over yourself.

Again, to the people who tried to answer my question...thank you...sincerely

You're welcome :)

Teach her not to text while driving and if she can't do that, don't give her a phone?

I don't get what's so difficult about this.

People are going to do it no matter what. I'm sure everyone in here has sent something whether it's a sentence or a paragraph or two letters. Telling people not to do something is only encouraging more. I agree with the author and everyone else in the room here. But the author only wanted to know if there was an app. Not to get better parenting info.

One of my cars has this built in for the navigation system, it can't be manipulated at all while the car is in motion - I hate it, cause I can't even have my passenger look something up for me while we're driving - I have to pull over and come to a complete stop.
