Chinese non oficial case mfr (which use to have better info, most from spy ) didn't receive any clue on another iPhone than the 4.7".

Maybe they did. Maybe they didn't. Maybe the security is better because they use pegatron or are assembling them in Fremont. Who knows.

Well, the Galaxy Note series alone has sold about 100 million units. And those are phones that cost more than the base level iPhone. So yeah, I'm willing to bet that Apple wants a piece of that action as well. That's $40+ billion in revenue that Apple has missed. Not to mention the rest of the phablets.

Let's just revisit this thread after the announcement.

----------

I'd like to sell something with about a 40% margin to even 5% of that 32% of consumers. Think about your math: you're saying about 1/3rd of all phone-buying consumers buy a phone with a screen much bigger than the only phone available from Apple right now and .3" bigger than the rumored 4.7" iPhone that is coming soon.

That's not saying that Apple shouldn't build other sizes- including smaller sizes. What that is saying is that there is this HUGE segment to which Apple currently has nothing to sell. And if the "there is no 5.5" crowd is right", Apple will still have nothing to sell them if that 32% will only buy screens bigger than 5".

Apple is going to go where the profits are. The small-screened phones for the other 68% might be heavily dominated by the commodity-priced (low/no margin), barely-smart-to-dumb phones.

I guess we wait and see.

Why would Apple have needed to increase the screen size at the time? Data at the time showed the phones with screen sizes 3.5 - 4.0 were desired more by consumers. And sales figures backed it up. Screen sizes larger than 4.0" had a smaller market share by comparison.

Not as many people like large phones as you think.

Steve Jobs was fixated on the 3.5" screen size as the ideal. The increase in size by 0.5" was a sorry compromise complete with odd tall height.

I've been on this forum since the debut of the iPhone suggesting that the screen needs to be larger and two sizes should be offered. Most thought I was bat ***** crazy!

Apple is finally getting off their anal fixation due to mega billions lost to the competition. Sad

Maybe the 2100mAh battery will feature in the high end 4.7" models to help justify the higher price tag and encourage more users to buy the high end models.

The hand is in the same position and similar size, while most fingers aren't the same exact size they aren't exactly greatly different.

How can you possible know that? This is a fallacy. For all we know that hand could belong to a 7 foot giant or a 4 foot midget - we can assume, but we can't know from a simple photo with nothing as a reference for scale.

LMAO, so you saying that's is the case, there is a larger chance this isn't a battery for any iPhone so my odds win over by a large majority, it's also possible it's an Alien hand too.

What is oddly tall about the iPhone 5? It's 9:16 just like all the Android phones are, and they're even bigger, thus even taller.

You're the first person I ever heard saying the iPad mini was too large of a tablet

lol Maybe I'm unique. But yeah, I only mean it's too large for MY definition of a "small tablet"--which is that it should be small enough for two things... to palm comfortably in one hand (because palming is the most natural and secure way to hold something); and to fit into a pant back pocket (for portability without requiring a bag, jacket, etc). The Mini was just a tad too wide for both. I tried my friend's Nexus 7 and thought it was a great max size. I also tried a 6" Nokia Lumia and thought it was a good minimum size (also nice because you could palm it and still scroll with your thumb). Except you know... those don't run iOS. A 5.5" iDevice is going to be a bit smaller than what I'd want, but not too bad.

I think it is Apple's comparatively huge top and bottom bezels that make the iPhone 5/5s look abnormally long. I do agree the screen size change was a sorry compromise though, because although technically they made the screen bigger, they effectively just made it shaped differently, all the while making one-handed use more difficult. All around not a great compromise IMO, unless you really love 16:9.

Who do you think allows the leaks of the real components to happen? Apple. It builds hype for the next iPhone. I don't think they care about an anonymous battery leaking.

The iPhone 6 hype machine does not need battery leaks to start churning. It's consistently the most speculated piece of tech every summer. Everyone from rumor sites to mainstream media speculate.

Secrecy drives this, not leaked battery pics. Apple would rather the existence of the product remain a mystery for as long as possible, so it doesn't kill the existing product. That's why there's only 10 days between announcement and launch - 98% uptime. If they wanted to incessantly build hype, Tim Cook would unveil it months in advance.

Apple has given up on leaks killing existing products. Leaks or no leaks, everyone already knows we get a new iPhone sometime between June and October every year. There's no surprises there. None at all. So it's all about hyping up the next one, and yes, battery leaks play into that. It's another piece to trying to figure out exactly what the next iPhone is.

No. But judging size from a photo without a reference is pointless. You just can't know what you're looking at. It could be an iPhone 4 battery.

Most hands are similar in size? That's funny.

I didn't realize people have hands multiable times in thickness. Seriously you people are ridiculous. Yea hands vary, but you people act like bones are going to vary in thickness to an extrem and it is honestly laughable.

Even if they vary 30%, that makes a huge difference in the scale of the photo. And they do vary by at least that much.
