16GB 3GS. Baseband unknown. Phone is stuck in "connect to itunes" screen.

What firmware was the phone running before you tried to restore it? Was it unlocked?

1. As posted above, if you flashed the iPad baseband to unlock it then you'll need a custom ipsw to restore it.

2. If you didn't do the iPad baseband, it could be that you have your hosts pointed at Cydia instead of apple. U can try using tinyumbrella to kick out of recovery mode.

It's not that hard a fix. Follow the guide in my signature.

That guide didn't work at all.

Any old custom firmware will do?

Again, I got the phone from a friend who said it was jailbroken but doesn't remember what firmware/baseband or if blobs were saved or not. His exact words were: "I just ran the program and let it do it's thing."

start by getting tinyumbrella, and using it to get your iphone out of recovery mode, then start asking how to restore the firmware

I kick it out of recovery mode with Tiny Umbrella and it goes right back in.
I think OIS is only halfway installed because RedSn0w crashed in the middle of restoring with unexpected error.

I've been doing some research on error 1015- and I have concluded that Apple is trying to brick our phones. Sure, the Apple docs say 1015 is an error you get when trying to downgrade firmware, but I'm finding another story...

Apparently, a lot of people with jailbroken phones have been getting error 1015 from iTunes when they try to do a clean install of IOS from DFU or Recovery Mode... I new it would only be a matter of time until Apple started hacking the hackers.

And now it's happening to me.

WOW, time to do an ostrich move (head in sand) after a post like this.

This is a help forum.
Perhaps asking for advice instead of making a foolish post would serve you better in the future. :p

I tried updating from 4.1 to 4.3 last night for about 3hrs, nothing worked. It would install 4.3 and give error 1013, but it would only boot to the itunes/usb cable screen. Using tinyumbrella to exit recovery mode or use the fix recovery did not work either, the phone would just go blank and not boot after that.

The only way i got my phone working again was to reinstall 4.1 and then i HAD TO jailbreak it with greenpoison, then start tinyumbrella and kick it out of recovery and then it would finally boot up....That process is the only way i could get my phone to restore fully and get back to using it.

Shockwave,

I had the same issue. Try to do a restore using official 4.3 and when it stalls out, run blackra1n. That will kick it into gear and restore should complete.

TS has been told this in several ways but he wants to believe his Apple Bricking iPhone conspiracy. there are tons of threads about error 1015 all he has to do is google. he doesn't need 4.3 just kick it with Tiny Umbrella or blackra1n etc. At least it's a entertaining thread!

I'm curious why this is happening to him on a "new pc, with a fresh copy of itunes'?

I was on JB'd 4.01 the other day, tried to update to 4.3. I got the error message, and was in recovery. i used tiny umbrella to kick it out, and it finished the install.

I had 4.3 with BB 1.59, and had no signal bars, but the phone worked fine. Before i knew what the hell was happening, i just downgraded back to 4.01 anyways.

Well if they are blocking the restore how did I just downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.1?

When you get the error, put the phone in DFU mode, click the Fix Recovery button. Mine got stuck at "GreenPoison initialising", but when I started iTunes and clicked the restore button it kicked started the firmware upgrade and 4.2.1 completed successfully.

Kick it out of Recovery mode with Tiny Umbrella. 1015 means that the downgrade was successful. The older firmware has been installed and is ready. You just need to get it out of recovery.
