Lol exactly what I was thinking. I don't understand why people care that he was trying to get free stuff since it has nothing to do with them.

He asked for people to tell him what to do. So that's what people did.

People's computer problems don't usually have anything to do with me, either, but I still give input and try to help when I can. This is no different.
 
To get the full student discount (FE) instead of HE (the links that you guys posted) you have to either order over the phone, order from your university network, or order through a loophole ;) Different system in the uk.

Not wanting to be rude but omg, spoilt brat! Something goes wrong and you are immediately demanding compensation? Shut up, order online from one of mulitple retailers including apple themselves.

Edit: student... Shoulda known. And anyway, educational discount can be applied online.

Yeah agree 100%. Complete spoiled brat. He thinks he deserves "Great compensation" on top of a student discount because Apple had a system crash which is not the representative's fault? Wow. He deserves a 50% markup.
 
I just wanted a view from the community on what I should do to earn a great compensation and how I should do that. I have been house bound all day and certainly think I should be given something as a gesture of good will. Any recommendations on how I should approach this. ?

The best approach is to act extremely rude and furious on the phone because they are easily intimidated. Let them know that you'll never buy an Apple product again, and they will likely expedite the laptop of your choice free of charge as well as pay you $85,000 in annual compensation adjusted for cost of living. It works every time.
 
Having to put up with their system having problems sucks, sure. But why do you think that entitles you to something for free? Crap happens, even to the best of companies. You could just call back tomorrow; no one said you have to sit at home and wait. That was your decision.

Besides, according to your other post, you were already planning on asking for freebies before even placing your order. Apple was giving some free items to people because their orders got delayed, not to every free-loader that decides they deserve something that they have no claim to.

If this guy wants to call and complain more power to him. If he gets something, time well spent.

If the Apple's site accepts orders so too should the dial in sales. PERIOD.

Apple is generally a standup company and will compensate consumers when wronged or even inconvenienced. All of you would avail yourselves of this if given the opportunity.

I don't really think people are mad...at least, I know I'm not. It's more just general annoyance at people thinking they're entitled to things that they really aren't, but I'm not mad at anyone. I just think some people tend to act like spoiled brats and think the world should bend over backwards for them. This person was very obviously looking to scam some free stuff from Apple, and posted about it in a public forum. That gives everyone here the right to give their opinions on the matter. When posting stuff like this, the OP deserves all the comments that get thrown at him.

Actually, no, I'm not being self-righteous. If I called Apple to place an order and they offered me something for some inconvenience (being put on hold forever, being hung up on, etc), sure, I'd probably accept it. Would I call them to complain about a non-existent problem in order to get something for free? No. Would I ask others what I should say so that I could try to convince the sales rep to give me something for free, even when I hadn't been inconvenienced at all? No. Call people self-righteous if you want...but don't assume you know how I would act in a specific situation.

What about the inconviene that he will face. The longer it takes to place his order, the longer it'll take for him to get his laptop. Heck, he may not see it before August. I'd be pretty ticked off too considering the price.

Chances are having to wait an extra hour or two, or even a day, aren't going to matter at this point. It's still likely to be August before he gets it.

if nothing else, I did learn that there is a different discount for students that requires more hoops but is steeper than the easier option...? so not a total waste of eyeball and mouse finger movement, this thread.
